Transcript excerpt from a YouTube video titled "CLEAN YOUR TONGUE OR THIS WILL HAPPEN" (creator: Josh Trent). Speakers describe the tongue as porous ('a shag carpet'), explain that food, mucus and bacteria collect in tongue crevices forming a white layer that commonly causes bad breath, note fungal infections and the condition 'hairy tongue', and recommend routine tongue cleaning/scraping.
The tongue is a shag carpet. It is not a smooth table. It's a shag carpet.
And when I scrape it, it almost.
Looks like, sorry to gross y' all out.
Like, snot and.
Like crud.
And skin. And if I were to not do that in the morning, I would essentially just be eating and passing that bacteria into my physiology.
So we have crevices in there. All the food that we eat, the snot, the drainage, the bacteria, it can tuck into those crevices. And so what you see over time is that white layer on top of the tongue, and that is a lot of the source of bad breath. We get a lot of fungal infections. There's a condition which you guys can Google or chat. It's called hairy tongue.
Hairy tongue.
Prepare yourselves when you look for. Look at the images. But, yeah, basically, the tongue can serve as, like, a bed of growth of all the things that we want to avoid. So cleaning it on a routine basis is absolutely necessary, and most people don't do it.
