Short conversational transcript discussing whether whey protein causes bloating. Speakers suggest bloating may result from concentrated whey protein lacking the full complement of proteins and enzymes found in whole cheese; industrialized dairy forms can be harsh on the stomach. Alternatives mentioned include plant/pea protein and beef protein isolate; sourcing quality matters for digestibility and bioavailability.
Why does the whey make people bloat?
It's a waste product of cheese. It's not in this complete form where, you know, if you have a thing of cheese, like, it's going to come with all the different types of proteins, the enzymes that come along with that. You're just getting a specific whey protein, which I think in the concentration, your gut's just not used to.
Like, if anyone is lactose intolerant, what we see a lot is, hey, I couldn't do whey. I opted for, like, a plant source or a pea source of protein that didn't digest super well. Oh, wow. Beef protein isolate actually exists, and it's like these collagenous parts of the animal and the leaner parts of the animal, too. And it finally doesn't bloat me because it's what I'm supposed to be consuming. It's the meat, it's the bones, it's the organs that tend to digest really, really well and be super bioavailable. And dairy can be that too. But there's just, like, a lot of forms of industrialized dairy. They're just really harsh on the stomach, which is why the quality of where you source from matters so much.
