Emotional Epigenetics™: Identity Transformation Science (Dave Asprey's Biohacking Conference 2025)

Josh Trent presents a 15-minute live activation titled "Emotional Epigenetics™" at the Dave Asprey Biohacking Conference (Austin, 2025). He argues that emotional patterns and lineage influence epigenetic expression (trauma vs. trust), that people are "bioenergetically burdened" rather than broken, and that these patterns can be rewritten through breath, love, and practices. The talk mixes brief, high-level scientific claims (epigenetic transmission, histone modification/methylation, mouse studies), personal testimony (family mental-health struggles, addiction, financial crisis, calling to launch a podcast), guided experiential practices (three deep breaths; a 3-minute partner-or-dance exercise), and a closing invitation to an 88-practice Life Method program (promotional offer: six months free).

What if I told you that many of the moments you've experienced in self sabotage weren't always 100% your fault? What if it was your biology trying to protect you? You see, we all come from a garden. And how that garden is watered or fed determines whether your epigenome turns off and on the chemical messages to your DNA that make you feel trauma or make you feel trust. Because really, your DNA is not destiny. There is no such thing as genetic determinism. It is just a fabrication of society. Your. Your DNA is your discussion. And your conversation with God, with your creator, emotional epigenetics reveals the truth. You are not broken. You are just bioenergetically burdened. And for the next 15 minutes, I am going to prove that to you. What you're about to experience was a live activation that I gave here in Austin, Texas, at the Dave Asprey biohacking conference. But this isn't just a talk. It's a remembrance. It's a remembrance of who you and I really are. Let's remember I am here to take a subject that can be kind of serious and make it playful. And that is, why do we experience trauma from our lineage and how do we let it go? And what's the real science behind that? Because the person that you are today is so different than who you were a minute ago, a year ago, definitely 10 years ago. It's taken me 10 years to find my fiance, who I love. Carrie, I am an identity transformation architect. I've been hosting a podcast called Wellness and wisdom for 10 years. And I'm a son of God. Now, I'm not here to wax religion with anyone, but that's how it's all possible is from God. So I believe that everything we do is sacred. Every single thing that we experience in life. Why are we sacred? We're sacred because we come from a garden. We literally come from a womb of a mother. And how we come in our capacity to feel, that was programmed, predetermined by our lineage. It gives us shame or it gives us pride, which lead us to trauma or trust. How many people in the room have ever been through something hard? All of us. It's almost like it was the grand design. And so if you really think about it, no one's broken. We're all just bioenergetically burdened. We're not broken. There's no one to fix. There's nobody here. I'm not here to fix you, and you're not here to fix anybody else. Now, the interesting part about this is that we're all energy. So physics says work capacity, metaphysics says consciousness. But spirituality knows something that science tries to fake. Science says, okay, it's work capacity of an organism to make you feel good. That can do work. But really what we're talking about here is burdens. We have burdens in life. We're bioenergetically burdened. What does that mean? Environment. Our beliefs that are unconscious. That's the one that I really love to go deep on. And then also our emotional patterns. So has anybody ever been stuck in an emotional pattern before? Like anger, sadness? Okay, couple people. When we get stuck in these patterns, how do we move it through our body? Breath? Work is great, but knowing and doing are two separate things. And so really, what we're talking about here is something that science can prove. And for all the. For all the scientists in the room and people that really want to go deep into the science, it's here. I don't want to waste your time with the science. The science is important. But the heart of what we're going to do today is way more important. Way more important. All right, here's really the heart and soul of what I want to share with you all today. If you leave just getting this one thing. Spirit says your patterns are written into your biology, but we can also rewrite them with love. Now, love is a platitude, right? The hippies had it right. Love is all there is. But it's true. The biggest platitude in the world are true. They're true because they get watered down by social media. But here's the ultimate truth is that fear can be passed on epigenetically, scientifically, spiritually, emotionally. But so can love. So let's do a practice. When we breathe, we connect with energy that we don't normally have access to. And the coolest thing about that is that when we breathe, it gives us these touch points that we normally could never sense. And so just gently close your eyes and place your feet on the floor and just take three deep breaths. Just arrive in your seat and relax your jaw. Relax your jaw completely. Take a big breath into your nose and let it go. I want you, when you relax, to actually allow yourself to relax. Don't fake it. Just relax. There's nothing in this moment that's a threat to you. There's nothing in this moment that you have to do. So just let that truth wash over you. You're good here. Take a big breath in through your nose and exhale. And I want you to think about how many Things had to take place before you arrived here. Your mother, your father, your grandparents, your great great grandparents. Every single person that had to be in union from love to get you here. Now we're just going to breathe like a circle. And I want you to feel their presence with you. Inhale through your nose. Exhale. Take one big breath in through your nose. And I want you to just hold it at the top. So big breath in through your nose and hold. Feel the pressure. Wanting to breathe. Just be with that pressure. It's all good. It's the same pressure your ancestors felt. It's the same pressure you feel when you're at work and when you're stressed and when there's things going on. Bills to fade. Just in three seconds, let all that go. One, two, three. With your eyes closed, take the biggest, deepest, luxurious breath into your nose. Fill your belly, hold and let it go. Just be with this stillness for a moment. Just for a moment. When you're ready, you can open your eyes and come back to the taste of what you already felt was really true. That there's nothing to fix. There's nothing to fix with you. You're not broken. However, the world is in an interesting state. And the state of the world right now is a mirror of the tension and the disconnection that we all feel. Krishnamurti said it the absolute best. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. And we know we're in a sick society, right? There's a reason that we all came here to this conference is because we're interested in our own unique way, in our own unique version of healing society. That's really what this is all about. Every single initiation the world is in, a huge initiation right now that we go through is actually for our good. So I'm going to share my quick initiation with you. And I want you all to connect with your hearts. Maybe you already felt it, that part of you that got initiated when you were a child, when you were a little boy, when you're a little girl and things happen that were really challenging for you. I know I'm in the right crowd because y' all already raised your hand and said, you've been through challenge. So my father struggled with his own demons. My mother had manic bipolar disorder. Still does. And that gave me a bioenergetically burdened body. Now, what do I mean by that? Bioenergetics means that we. Your body has a burden from either the environment, the unconscious beliefs, or those patterns of emotions that keep rolling through your neural tree. I don't use the word nervous system. Here's why. When you hear the word nervous, what do you feel? Just throwing it out there. Are you nervous? So, nervous system. And this is actually to credit one of the gentlemen who's here, Dr. Steven Young. If you haven't followed him, definitely follow him. The power of NLP is always in place, right? Neuro linguistic programming is always programming us either for love and trust, or either for trauma and fear, full stop. And so our neural tree was designed to be loved. I developed a shell and my shell was called food. And then food led to pornography. And pornography led to me wanting to get a six pack and thinking that a six pack was going to give me all the peace and fulfillment I ever needed. But I was still miserable. So with enough womanizing and then having the six pack that I thought was going to make me accepted and loved by girls, I wasn't fulfilled. I still didn't feel like Josh. And so in six months, my mom was put in a mental home. My credit card bill was like 80k. And I had this moment where I just dropped down to a knee and I just asked God, what. What would you like me to do? What do you want me to do? Because I don't want to be here anymore if it's going to be like that. These burdens that I and we all carry epigenetically expressed through our lineage. Emotional, behavioral, environmental, they're real. We all can feel them. And so at that time, I didn't know this, but God said, launch a podcast. You've been wanting to do that for like two years, so you may as well do it. And then I had a journey. And has anybody heard of Joseph Campbell in the room? The hero's journey. Okay. It's a phenomenal work to understand the mythology of yourself. So if you haven't heard of that, definitely check him out. What's really unique is that when we get initiated, we get separated on the second phase. So I was separated from everything I ever thought was real. My high school friends that wanted to drink and do drugs, everybody else that was talking about and the weather and things that don't matter. I found Paul. Check. In 2010, I started to follow him and then I was actually able to be on his podcast. And I went through this journey of looking at my addictions. Why was I using porn? It wasn't about just masturbating to a scream. Why was I disconnected from God? It's cuz I had never been taught how to trust God because Everybody that had trusted God before they let me down. So why should I trust God? And it wasn't until I was able to meet my now fiance where I really was called by God to look at my stuff. Why are you watching porn? Why are you still engaging with these people? And why haven't you actually shined in the way that I want you to shine? And so that's what today is for me. Today is a day where, where I get to shine and we all get to shine. Because my story is literally how many people have already felt a little section of my story in their story? Of course, because we're all doing the same thing. I'm going through my stuff just like you are. And so that's why I'm sharing this. I. I didn't come here to fix my mom. That was my 10 year lesson. I didn't come here to fix my mom. I'm not here to fix my fiance. We're not here to fix each other. I'm here to learn how to unconditionally love. And that is hard. But that is the power of how emotions epigenetically express in our DNA with histone modification and methylation. And the science is very deep. You can see that my story had some seriousness in it. Right. But I'm here to bring playfulness to it because playfulness is spiritual warfare. It is literally warfare against spiritual programming. Right. How many people feel like in the media it's pretty rough. Yeah, it's heavy. So transformation in that same vein can be enjoyable. Transformation does not have to be us praying to the growth God and like, let me go to 15 Joe Dispenzas and let me go to 16 Tony Robbins. And have all my ribbons stacked up on my wall so that people can see how much work I've done. But I'm still an. That's not training yourself. And so here's what I would like to do. I would like to move us into an exercise of trust and safety. You have two options. Number one, it's only three minutes long. So just trust me here you can dance or you can connect with someone brand new and you're going to ask them two questions. The first question is, what brought you here? Why are you here? And what's something super fun and maybe funny about you that most people don't know? Like a nickname you had or something like you scratch yourself when you're nervous. I don't know, something like that. Okay, so three minutes, I'm going to play this song. This is one of the coolest songs, by the way. And for three minutes, I just want you to connect with someone. Or dance. Connect with someone. Or dance. Just three minutes. Just being human. Old school. Remember that? Serious needs play. Serious needs play. So did y' all feel better or did you feel the same compared to when you just connected with each other? Here's why you felt good. Because you're a capacitor. Look at this photo of my daughter in school. So cool. You're a capacitor. When your capacitor is nourished by what you just did, that's actually generational healing. It doesn't have to be so serious. Of course, there is very serious therapies that can be done, which is amazing. When I made the logo of the podcast in 2022, I had no freaking idea that it was actually an energetic capacitor from electricity. And in sacred geometry, that a pentagon is harmony, I had no freaking idea. So cool. And then I realized that, oh, okay, if the capacitor is the pentagon, and in geometry, it means harmony, well, then why don't we just spend our whole lives nourishing the five sides of ourself? Why don't we just nourish ourselves mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, physically? And when we do that, that was in 2022. What happens is we start opening ourselves up to the bridge of emotion. And this is what Hawkins taught about for so many decades. MD, PhD, renowned psychiatrist. The scale of emotions where most of society operates is from survival. And when we operate from survival, we miss out on integrity. And then, of course, there's a love and light crew. Hey, brother, it's all love. It's all love, dude. You know what? Just, like, do some mushrooms and go walk out and do a party and, like, who cares about your stress? That's not life either. But there's maturity here. Because when I can get to courage from pride, like I did when I looked at my stuff, then you could really grow. And when you grow, you realize that emotions are only 90 seconds. This is what Dr. Jill Taylor, her brother was a schizophrenic. That's what drove her into the work. She realized that, wow, when I measure this in the brain, it's 90 seconds. So what does that mean? If an emotion is 90 seconds, why does it get stuck? There's a cherry blossom study that was done that gave mouse cherry blossoms, and they shocked them, and that showed two generations that they would continue to exhibit that stress response. And then there's also seven generations that are affected from abuse and trauma and sexual things. But here's the coolest part, and this is if you leave with one more thing, this is what I want you to leave with. Your neural tree. Your neural system does not care about reality of time. Your neural system only cares about safety. So when you have a. A man or a woman or a situation in your life that comes to you and you feel that same trigger response, your neural system doesn't care. It doesn't care at all. And so the power of this, that's really cool, is that when your capacitor is fully charged, you know who you are, you know why you're here. You've done that deeper work to understand, like, this is who I am. And also, this is all the things I've been through. Then this is the coolest part. You can feel who you really are. You don't have to wear a mask when you go to a conference. You don't have to close all the deals. You don't have to struggle, you don't have to suffer. You don't have to try so hard. And also you get to accept this is a lifelong process. So what is this all about? Your greatest freedom comes when your biology no longer argues with your reality. That's it. That's what. All these red light therapies and all these toys and tools which are cool, I have them. I have a cold plunge, I have red light, I have pemf. I have all the stuff. But when your biology is no more arguing with your reality, that's when you can say, okay, now I'm gonna bring life into the world. Now I'm gonna have children. And this is the coolest part, because I get to do this. My mom did not get to do this. We're blessed. Guys, can we just take one deep breath for how blessed we are? Wow. We are so blessed to even be here, to have the resources that our parents didn't have, that these generations didn't have. Just feel that in your heart for a second. Like, I wonder. I just wonder if this was all divine orchestration. And of course it was, otherwise it wouldn't have happened that way. Because our Creator has a plan. And so that's what we do with the Life Method activation. That's what I'm all about now. That's what I've learned how to do with like 88 practices. I was gonna show you that slide, but it was like way too many practices. There's like 88 different things I've learned and been through, and it brought me to this. So if you wanna join us online there's a code there for you to scan. It's six months for free, guys. Leave the room. And just know that, like, the struggles you have, these emotional, epigenetic struggles, you're not alone. We all experience them. And science and spirituality are teaching us the same thing. And that is, how can we unconditionally love? So thank y' all for being here. It.
