Alex Charfen (speaking in a YouTube video titled "ENTREPRENEURS ARE TRAUMA SURVIVORS") describes the entrepreneurial personality as physiologically sensitive and highly reactive to constraint, argues that many entrepreneurial drives stem from childhood trauma and parental imprinting, and outlines a transformation in entrepreneurs' motivation from "running away" from past threats toward consciously choosing meaningful goals once security is achieved.

I believe that the entrepreneurial personality type is a highly physiologically sensitive momentum based being that is highly reactive to constraint. When you look at the early stages of almost any entrepreneur's career, it's sacrifice everything for this thing that I need to have. And I think so much of our needs, our wants, our desires are born out of the trauma that we all had as children. We have to really be able to step outside of the life that we were imprinted by by our parents and even the trauma that you talked about and live the life that we were destined to live. You know, Rumi says the wound is where the light enter. And I totally believe that, like when we understand that, it changes our entire impression of the world and then what happens? And this is such an incredible transformation to watch an entrepreneurs. For the beginning of our career, we are running away from what we don't want. And then there's this transition where that's taken care of. Like what we don't want is no longer in our lives. We're not under threat, nobody's picking on us, we have plenty of money, we are secure. And then we have to go from running away from something to what are we going to run towards? What is the thing we're going to do? What really matters to us? What change do we really want to make?
