YouTube video excerpt (speaker Josh Trent) comparing kava to alcohol: frames kava as producing a relaxed, focused, ‘alpha’ mental state without drunkenness or cognitive dulling. The speaker describes kava as a natural, dosage-dependent relaxant that can provide euphoria and reconnect emotional/psychological complexity, and even labels it as an entheogen.

Kava's like alcohol without the drunkenness. It's sort of like a relaxed but not dulled state of mind at all. It opens the mind and clears the mind. It kind of puts you in almost like an alpha state, right? A very, very sort of calm, focused and very comfortable state. And dosage dependent. You can take very much larger amounts to get more of a state of almost euphoria and comfort. The experience is very authentic and natural. Like it is a natural high. It's not an altered state in the classic sense, which is what makes it more unique than any other compound. It's as a relationship that can really help reconnect us with the complexity of our emotional framework and our psychological framework. At the same time, is giving us that natural pleasure that we're seeking whenever we're going after something like alcohol. Alcohol gives you a shade of it and just enough to where it feels good, and then it kind of entices you back, but it ends up actually taking from your consciousness. If kava is an entheogen, which I would say that it certainly is, term entheogen means the divine within helps to surface the divine within.
