Mindset Reset: How To Use Self Affirmative Language To Live Your Best Life

Podcast episode (Wellness & Wisdom, hosted by Josh Trent) arguing that the words we speak to ourselves shape neural pathways, behavior, and life outcomes. The host describes neuroscience (neuroplasticity, reticular activating system), contrasts anxiety vs. depression reframes, cites Timothy Wilson, and offers practical exercises (I‑affirmative statements, mirror practice, NLP techniques, CBT‑style positive self‑talk) plus spiritual framing (LoA, prayer) to reprogram self‑narrative for greater wellbeing and abundance.

What if I told you that the words you use, the words you speak to yourself literally determine the trajectory of your life? Now, at first audible you might be like, duh. But are you actually doing it? We're talking about that today on the Wellness and Wisdom podcast. Stay tuned. So everyone knows that thoughts become things. You don't have to be Wallace Wattles, you don't have to be Napoleon Hill, you don't have to be Bob Proctor, and you sure as heck do not have to be Tony Robbins. We all know that thoughts and words become things when you speak to yourself or when you speak to others, literally and biologically, these thoughts, these words become who you actually are. Have you ever noticed that there's people in public and you might see them at the coffee shop every day, or you work with them or their family members even, and they tend to have the same stories on repeat, Almost like a broken merry go round that just spouts out the same either victimhood story or just babble and bullshit. Today on this AM we are going to talk about the depths and the changes possible that you can make for the impact on your self worth, your self love, through your self narrative. Now this is really big. I can share in my life. Before I started this podcast, I used to have a running narrative on repeat. Let me know if you can relate to this. I remember my very first public talk I ever did. It was like 2017 or 2016, and I went up there and I just said, I'm going to go for it. Look, you guys. The limiting beliefs, the narrative that I'm getting over came from childhood, as it always does. But this limiting belief was really, really blocking me from going to the next level in my business and going to the next level in the health I wanted, the relationship I wanted, the finance I wanted all of it. I had three really big things that I used to say to myself all the time and they hurt deeply. The first one was, who am I to do this? Who am I to do this? The second one was, money causes pain. Can you believe this? That was an old belief that I used to have. And the third one is expect the worst to happen. Now, these three beliefs turned into words, turned into a self narrative that was really deprecating. And it wasn't until I went through many different journeys, which essentially became the Wellness and Wisdom podcast in its current form today. That allowed me to get out of the mind trap that I put myself in by the very language that I was speaking. Look, the work is deep. You do not have to be a professional Personal development enthusiast or speaker, to know that going deep into your own psyche and figuring out the words that you speak to yourself can help or can harm. So let's talk about the ways in which we can identify the thoughts that become words. We tell ourselves that that literally shape and determine the trajectory of our life. Think about this. Jim Carrey, before he was a very famous actor, he used a positive side of loa. He taught himself to speak to himself in a way that sounded just like this. He wrote himself a check for $10 million. And he talked about this in an interview with Oprah once. He said, my surroundings did not predict that I would have the $10 million. My surroundings did not predict that I had the job, that I had the movie, that I had the success. He literally drilled into his psyche. And we're gonna talk about how you can do a version of what Jim Carrey did for yourself that's very, very practical. So stick around. We're gonna go through NLP techniques, a specific mirror practice, and an iaffirmative practice. By the end of this podcast, Jim Carrey wrote himself that check for $10 million. And he told himself as he wrote it on the back of the check, this is for $10 million for acting services rendered for Jim Carrey. He believed it. He believed it, he believed it. And then it came true. And actually so much more. This reprogramming started with the positive side of loa and turned into real abundance for him. Now, he did his work. He stacked his talent acquisition and his talent skillset creation process on top of it. But you and I are no different. We are literally acting out our own story here on planet Earth. And the script is the one that we're writing. And this is both maddening and also so freeing and so liberating. Look, you're here on the podcast because you believe what we believe. To see life through a different lens. This wellness pentagon that's on the screen right now on the base floor is our physical. Then on the walls are our mental and emotional. And of course, at the top, the roof, is the financial and the spiritual. Our connection with God and our connection with how money is actually spiritual. I truly believe they go hand in hand. So stay until the end because we're going to go over this NLP technique. Now, let's actually define the science of language. In reality, language is the spoken or written form of information. And the way that we process that information, either in auditory or in visual kinesthetic, is so, so important. Like, think about this. The science shows us that Neuroplasticity. And you can look at thousands of studies on PubMed neuroplasticity. Literally the axons and the dendrites. In our brain, the action potential that exists between one thought to the next thought is both spiritual self created but really it's neurological. We have plastic, literally plastic. Now not plastic like Tupperware, but a biological plastic that exists in our hardware, in our brain. But it's with the software, my friend. This is what I'm so excited to share with you today. The software can be updated to the point where it can actually update the hardware. It's the same thing if you're watching on YouTube or Spotify. We all have these phones, right? You get these iOS, 16, iOS notifications to upgrade your software. What do you think that is? They're actually changing how the hardware works on the phone. Your brain is no different. You just get a new code on how to speak to yourself. So think of this reframe the next time you have a negative self talk. I already talked about my three, but one could be I'm anxious. This is a really big one. So let's dive in. Anxiety is not something that you are. Anxiety is something that you're experiencing full stop. Let's just make that a talking point for us today to go really deep into anxiety. Anxiety essentially is a focus on the future and a lack of trust that that future will be something that we can handle. That's all anxiety is. It's a focus on the future. Depression is a rumination on the past. So when you say I'm anxious, I'm anxious. All your unconscious mind hears is I, I'm anxious. But here is a reframe. This is very, very powerful. The next time you are experiencing anxiety, say, you know what, I'm experiencing anxiety. It's not the totality of who I am. I'm just a human being with a soul in its body experiencing anxiety. I mean just feel the shift on this. Like it's so visceral, it's so incredible because your unconscious mind is always listening. One key fact to know about the science of neuro linguistic programming as it states it's on the screen right now. We get 11 million bits of info per second, but only 40 to 50 bits reach our conscious mind. This is from Timothy Wilson, a doctor at the University of Virginia. What this means is we have so much coming at us that we actually don't consciously process. But I'll share with you, my friend, everything that comes at us gets stored somewhere. That's why my journey with pornography was so challenging to surmount because I had to do a toxic cleanout about all the scenes and all the stuff that I'd seen. That's why we get to do a clean out, starting with the reframe of language from relatives, from parents, from society and from school. By taking things that have been given to us as gifts we never wanted. One of the things that I used to deal with was, I'm anxious. I'm anxious. This powerful reframe that I'm sharing with you, I've actually done it ever since the podcast started. And I knew right then in 2017, when I was on that stage trembling, speaking with fear, that I wasn't anxiety. It wasn't like a label on my forehead that people in the audience could tell, right? A lot of times we think that people can feel what we're feeling. But newsflash, y', all, they are feeling whatever they're feeling. They're too preoccupied with their own anxiety, depression, rumination, thoughts to really care about yours. So here's the key point. Give yourself permission to reframe anxiety instead of you being anxious that you're just a soul with a body that you're experiencing anxiety. That is a really powerful reframe. I want you to stop right now and just take a couple breaths and practice that right now, and then turn the video right back on. One more key point from neuroscience that's really powerful. Here is the reticular activating system. This is a infrastructure in your brain that actually seeks out whatever you focus on. This is why we hear the same things from different leaders in personal development, and they essentially all mean the same thing. And that is you get what you focus on energy flows, where attention goes. These are really cool catchphrases, right? They're things that we can see on social media as a platitude, but the reality is they're so incredibly real that they can change the way your brain relates to your body. They can change the way that you speak to yourself. So if you focus on a red car, like right now, maybe you're driving, or maybe you're sitting at home and watching. Pick something in the room and focus on it. So I'm looking at a light right here. I'm going to look for amber lights that then no matter where I go, I'm focused on seeing amber lights. Well, what if you could actually use your brain's hardware to upgrade it via software by your conscious thought and your conscious language? When people come to you with complaints, when people come to you with Their projections. When people come to you that you think makes you feel a certain way, you are right because you're focused on how it's making you feel. Now just bear with me here. What you focus on grows, what you feed grows. I'm not saying that it's easy, but it is damn simple. If you practice this one thing, reframing the thoughts that turn into words like I'm anxious, I'm depressed, to I'm experiencing anxiety, I'm experiencing depression, your life will radically shift. Let's move on to the next point. So there is scientific proof that in cbt, cognitive behavioral therapy, that positive self talk, positive affirmations, and a really empowering self narrative literally changes the hardware in the brain. You can look at the PubMed studies today at joshtrent.com 71 7. Now why is this so important? Wounds from childhood, wounds from culture, wounds from the media, specifically for women have been telling us that we're not enough, we're not worthy. And the only way we will be worthy is if we buy your stuff. Now isn't that interesting? Only the wound that's monetized becomes the fuel for a really unegalitarian capitalistic system. Now, I believe in conscious capitalism. I think that when you give people opportunities and you do it from your heart, they help you on your dream and you help them on theirs. But what's really fascinating about this, if you look at the studies that I'm mentioning, they're actually proving through CBT that you can rewire your brain by giving yourself I affirmative statements. Now, if you take one thing away, let's literally, if you take one thing away from this entire podcast, it is this one thing. Practice speaking I in the affirmative. This is a huge, life changing, utterly flip the script moment. Here's how it works. When you have a thought and that thought becomes real, it only becomes real when you attach emotion to it. When someone mistreats you, when someone projects on you, the worst thing you could ever do is say, you're making me feel this way, or point the finger at them. It's the confluence of NVC nonviolent communication with the I affirmative statements. Look at Matthew 11:24. If you're a Christian, or if you're a Buddhist, or if you're a philosopher or religious enthusiast of any kind. The way that you pray, the way that you meditate is actually a beautiful starting place for rewiring the narrative. So in Matthew 11:24 it says, Believe when you pray that you have what you are asking for and you will have It. But this is where loa gets a little wonky. What was missing was the three other additional parts. I believe, God, that I am asking you from humility for this peace. And I'm thanking you that it's on the way. I'm so grateful that it's here. If it is in your will, part one and God, I am going to give a service for the reception of this gift that you're giving me. Part number two, if it is in your will. And then part number three, let go of attachment. Ask for it, believe it's here. Say what you're going to say about service you're going to do when you receive it. Ask humbly if it's in God's will. And then really importantly, let go. Let go. Thank you, God. I am receiving this money. Thank you, God. I am receiving this relationship that is loving, that is nourishing. If it is in your will, God and I will be of service in this way. And then let go. Put all your dreams, put all your I affirmative statements in a balloon and then literally blow it up with air and release it. Let it go. When you use I affirmative statements in nonviolent communication, it disarms the other person. So a good example might be, I'm fighting with my spouse, I'm fighting with my boyfriend, my girlfriend, and I'm starting to get really angry. The worst thing you could ever do in that situation is become a victim of the situation. Now this is where it gets really important for hardwiring your brain, for joy, and for really maturity in relationships. You respond by saying, hey, can I take a breath? I Now these are practicing I affirmative statements. Can I take a breath? I'm feeling heat in my solar plexus. I I'm feeling like I'm not enough. I'm feeling judged, I'm feeling shame. Go up the Hawkins ladder. Just speak out whatever you're feeling. But you know what's really cool about this? You're not attacking the other person. Isn't this amazing? The I affirmative statements not only work in prayer, not only work in relationship. This is the third piece that's super, super important. This is like the keystone on the entire I affirmative awareness. When you speak to yourself in the I, God always says yes. One of my mentors, recently, Paul Chuck on Instagram, was giving a lecture and he said, you know what happens when you stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon and you shout into the Grand Canyon, I love you? The Grand Canyon says I love you back. It just echoes what happens when you're at the edge of the Grand Canyon. And you say, I want to lose 30 pounds. Well, all that comes back is, I want to lose 30 pounds. Now this is a story that a child can understand. So I really want to speak to your unconscious mind and make sure these bits are getting in there. So hear me, my friend, hear me here. And I'm talking to myself too. I stand at the edge of Grand Canyon. I say, God, thank you for this abundance in this exact amount that I'm receiving from you at this amount or greater God, if it is in your will. And here is the exact service I'm going to complete as I receive this gift. What do you hear back? You hear back exactly what you prayed for. In other words, when we speak things into existence, all God, universe, creator hears is yes. It's on the screen now. All our creator hears is yes. So whatever we're telling ourselves, whatever we're telling other people, hear me now, it will come back to you when you say, I am an asshole. I'm stupid, I'm fat. That is what's brought back to you until you have the courage to heal it. When you say, I'm excited that I'm healthy and I'm vital and I'm excited to be exercising and working out and eating clean foods every day, that's what comes back to you. So you can see the self narrative is not spiritual mumbo jumbo. It's visceral. It's real. It's something that can shift you right now. Right now. And I've been practicing this for 10 years. Am I perfect? No. Do I have a really stronghold of mastery on it? Yes, of course there's more to master. But this is the journey that we're on together. So let's go through a summary. Let's make this really practical for you right now. Here's what I want you to do. Stand in front of the mirror completely naked. If that's too much for you, wear some underwear. Or wear a bra and underwear and look right at yourself in the mirror and say, I love you.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
Say it 20 times this. I can feel the hair on my arms is standing up. I can feel the power of this in my body as I'm speaking it to you. A really famous author, Kamal Ravikant, he wrote a book called love yourself like your life depends on it. This was his key practice, rewiring his neurology through NLP by just saying this simple phrase.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
In the mirror to himself. If that doesn't resonate, you can say, I am loved. I am whole. I am accepted. But don't say this phrase I am enough, because you're so much more than enough. Enough is like mediocre. And I don't know about y'. All. I am not interested in a mediocre life. I am interested in a life where I use I affirmative language to actually reprogram my mind, both practically, spiritually and also biologically, neurologically. So maybe you got uncomfortable with that exercise. Maybe you get to have me playing in the background while you're doing it just for support. Maybe you need more support like we all do. And this is why I created the Liberated Life Tribe. You can head over to liberatedlife.com and join us. This is a exclusive, safe place where we go deep into these concepts to give you even more support on your journey.
