Molecular Hydrogen | H2 Science: Stay Young Forever Via Natural Detox

This YouTube interview (Oct 31, 2023) between Josh Trent and Dr. Mark Sherwood combines Dr. Sherwood's personal biography (athlete → police/SWAT → Power Team performer → naturopath/clinic founder) with a prolonged discussion of health threats (free radicals, toxins, degraded food system) and molecular hydrogen (H2) as a practical detox/antioxidant intervention. Sherwood explains hydrogen's proposed mechanistic role (selective neutralization of hydroxyl radical), contrasts delivery methods (chamber electrolysis machines vs. magnesium tablets), and recommends daily use (drink/inhalation/baths) while situating health choices in broader spiritual, social, and political contexts.

People are not living right now longer. They're dying longer. We've got to make a decision to do what we can, what we have control over, such as drinking a glass of water that might have hydrogen in it. Or we just become victimized by a toxic society that's going to get more toxic where nobody can live. I realized something early on within the free radical conversation that there are numerous free radicals people have heard of, like superoxide, like hydrogen peroxide. They all have little purposes, but there's one that has no purpose other than evil intent. And it's called hydroxyl radical. It's one of the free radicals that gets produced if your body doesn't quench in a normal capacity. Those ones that have good purpose. When you get that hydroxyl radical built up, there's only one thing that the body has in its arsenal to deal with it. Guess what that is? Hydrogen, which mimics what the body does from that 1000 to 1 ratio or more toxins. If they don't get dismissed from our body, they get stored in the fat tissue. People today are very overweight, making us very toxic. When toxins build up, we get the antioxidant regulatory element triggered, like we should, because it becomes a toxic overload. Before you know it, it's absolute poison. We worry about our country being destroyed by other countries. We're destroying ourselves because our health trends are so bad right now. They're the worst in history. We're creating more diseases faster than we're growing people. Foreign.
Dr. Mark Sherwood, thank you for coming on the podcast.
Awesome, Josh. Thanks for having me, man.
Welcome to Austin. Do you love Austin? Do you like hot climates where it's, you know, 105 degrees for six months out of the year?
I'm used to it, man. It's. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, so we're not far north of you. Same kind of weather.
Okay. You know, it's interesting. We were chatting before I hit Record and Tulsa, it's a place where things have been a certain way for a long time. There's a certain mindset there, and there's a certain mindset when it comes to alternative health as well. Something we talk about in this show all the time is starting with the physical, then the emotional, then the mental, then the spiritual, then the financial. But if you don't have the base covered, if you don't have the ground, like if we're not here at a table, then none of this equipment could be held. It's the same way with us. And I think about you know, a pro athlete, then SWAT team, then police officer, then author, then naturopathic doctor. We're going to get into that story, man. Yeah, because there's, there's an interesting story there. Like that is not the traditional path to health. No, I think about my own path. £280 at one point. And then letting go of that weight and working in gyms for 10 years and then finding God within myself and understanding what God actually is. If we can actually do that in this lifetime, maybe we can't. But for people that don't know you, you know, go 30,000ft with us and who are you today versus who were you when you started? And pro athletics, who was that guy?
Well, I think, I think I'm an adopted kid. So I think first of all, to start there, 30,000 foot view, Josh, is, you know, early on when you're adopted, you're, you're, you're selected, but there's also something missing in your heart. You know, it's like a, it's almost a missing piece that you can't figure out. And so you really don't fit in, but you fit in, if you get my drift. And it's like being an only kid. I didn't have the most talent in the world, didn't have any siblings, so I felt like I was something to prove. You know, I always try to live the expectation and so even with baseball, you know, I, I wasn't the best baseball player, but I made up my mind to achieve a goal. And I had this teacher, probably second grade ish, she asked me this question, she asked whole class question. I'm sure listeners have been asked this question too. What do you want to be when you grow up? Well, everybody's hands went up and, and minded too. But I didn't think she'd call on me, man. I was like, oh no. And she called on me, she said, mark, what do you want to do? And I said, I want to be a professional baseball player. And she said, well, and she made it a lesson. You can be anything you want to be. And she encouraged everybody in the room to take out a little piece of paper and write down on that piece of paper exactly what you wanted to be. In my case, I wrote, I will become a professional baseball player. And she said, I want you to hang on to that piece of paper until your dreams come true. Okay. Well, I took it literally, man. I carried that paper with me until I got my driver's license. So we're talking several years later. I put it in my wallet, behind my driver's license. And I carried that with me all through college. When I got to where I was playing professional baseball player, there was one day in particular, I was in the dugout, and I thought, I wonder if that paper is still there. And it just kind of hit me out of nowhere. And I looked and I couldn't find, and I thought, oh, well, I lost it. But then I got to look and it stuck to the back of one of my driver's licenses, and I peeled it off and the words were there, I will become a professional baseball player. And so I realized at that point that dreams come true if you work hard enough. So having to come from behind, you know, not being the best, but having to work harder than everybody else, that kind of set the tone for my life, you know. And so after that, career came and went, like many careers do, you know, and ended up on the police department. And then it was the next step, trying to become a member of the SWAT team. So I did that. And for the 24 years I served the police department, 10 years on the SWAT team. And even during that time, I was able to compete in some bodybuilding contest and win some of those. And. And you might remember this maybe, maybe some are listening to power team member, the guys that traveled around the world and broke bricks with their heads.
Yes.
Yeah, I was a member of that team for 12 years, so been all over the world.
You broke bricks with your head?
Uhhuh. Okay. Yeah, I know. Still.
And other crazy feats too.
Yeah, we used to run through ice and run through two by fours and blow up the hot water balls and all that kind of rip. Rip phone books in half.
Yeah, yeah.
So it was a great evangelical tool. And so I. I was able to do all that. And it was like, interesting because you never know what you're capable of until you start working hard enough to see if you can do it. And you know, and you know, was God was calling me to different areas of that, you know. And then towards the end of my career, a police department, I was put in charge of a wellness program at our police academy. And nothing existed like that. So I just went on a mission to figure it out. Because the police officer life expectancy today is still 66 years of age. That is. That is not very old. And there's a lot of reasons behind that. Shift work, ill health, stress, ptsd, et cetera.
Yeah.
But that got me into the idea of health, and so I started trying to figure it out. And then when I was in my late 30s, early 40s, I decided, well, I just want to keep learning. So I started taking classes and then eventually decided to go back to school. I mean, who does that, right? But at 40. At 40. And I did. And then my wife and I teamed up to start the Functional Medical Institute in Tulsa. And we've been there for, you know, going on 13 years now. And during that time we've been able to write some books, we've produced five full length movies. And so it's been a journey. But you're right, it's not been the typical journey. Yeah, but then again, I always like to say it kind of my mission that I've been given is the same. It's called protection and service. And I'm supposed to really communicate a message for people to protect themselves from themselves and then serve my fellow man with love and kindness and truth. And so, you know, I've done my best to do that and still do that every day. And that's why I'm here. You know, you asked me why I was here. You know, I'm, I'm here to support a philosophy and a science of something that I think will help people. And so it's, it's been a journey. I've continued to become a student and learn. I don't have it figured out, but I work hard. Every day I get up, I do the same things I'm telling people to do, I, I get up in the morning, I pray, I go work out and I go to work. That's every day, boom, boom, boom, boom. And just, you know, hopefully there'll be some more unique chapters in my journey ahead.
I think so. I think we're actually writing one of the sentences on one of the pages of the chapters right now. And one of the things I loved about your story is you said, you know, I've really come to understand that I get to protect people from themselves.
Right.
That's a big one. Because it is, you know, I have on both my, my maternal and paternal sides, there's a lot of, I guess you could say mental health disease, and not necessarily always classified as like. My mother struggled bipolar for the majority of her life and, and still does in some way. My dad had cognitive dissonance and the mental health aspect of how it ties into the foundation which you and I were chatting about when we started this conversation, the physical through the gut brain axis and how that goes into actually how we think about ourselves, the narrative about ourselves. It's funny to me that an athlete, then somebody in law enforcement and now a naturopath. Did you ever look back and go, you know, I think one day I'm actually going to become a speaker. I'm going to travel, I'm going to write a book. Like when you're in the dugout swinging a bat, that's probably not on your mind.
It's not. I think that as you go through life, you realize that there, there are chapters and there are sub chapters that you go through. I mean, you mentioned the mental health aspect. A big turning point in my life was in 2002 and my mom struggle with, with issues like that, drug addiction and most likely bipolar. But she ended up committing suicide. And it, it ripped my heart out. You know, it changed the way I did life at that point, you know, and you. And at that point I could either get crushed by it all or get motivated. Motivated by it. And I chose the. The latter. And you know, I think that you don't think about what your story is going to be like. You don't think so?
Yeah.
But interesting enough at that time I was on the power team traveling around schools and telling them not to commit suicide. So, you know, it rocks your world when life happens. But life will shape you. It'll break you or shape you. It just does, man. And, and the experiences that we go through, they make you who you are. And even before coming on your show, you know, and today I, you know, I. I want the words that I share to be inspired words because I know that this moment is not to be taken for granted. And so I really, I view it like that. It's a serious time, you know, and so I never thought I would be a speaker, an author and actor. I never thought that would happen. Never even thought about it. But it seems like it's just happened. And, and I'm okay with it because I'm still the same little boy that goes to work every day and wants to outwork people. I'm still that same guy. That, and, and I hope I stay this way, that I don't forget where I came from. I'm no better than anybody else. I'm the same. And I've just decided to, to pick up my, my pain and go forward with it instead of lying there in it.
Yeah, but the power in that is, in order for you to do that, there had to have been a detoxification process of the thoughts about why is this happening to me?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, I can't. Like, I took a breath when you talked about your mom. Like, I can't even. I Truly can't even imagine that. I know that, like, maybe hundreds of people watching or listening have been through something like that. Maybe a family member or mother or father or somebody. The way in which we detoxify our body, which is a huge conversation with what we're going to talk about today with hydrogen, molecular hydrogen, and also just the detox systems of the body in general. But I think what gets missed in this conversation that I'd love to jam with you on, is the detoxification of the thoughts in our mind, the dark, demonic thoughts, the things that, you know. Paul Levy, who's been on the show, he calls it wetico. The Native Americans described the dark energy, the demonic energy in the world as a wetiko or a mind virus. And so that is something that if we're not careful, if we're not mindful, if we're not detoxifying not just our physical self, but our mental self and our spiritual self, it's really easy for dark energy and dark matter to grab hold of us.
Yeah.
I wonder, in your travels and in your book writing and just basically like the summation of what you've been doing on planet Earth up until now, what are one of the one or two top ways that people tend to stay toxic? From a mental perspective, I know we're going to go into the physical.
Yeah, yeah.
But from a mental perspective, this is interesting.
You know, I. I've thought about this a lot over the course of time because, you know, the. The mind is separate from the brain, and I. I think we start right there. So I think people can draw this mental funnel, if you will. So kind of think about a funnel coming out of your head and being open the top. So the bigger part is out here and it's exposed to the world. Right. The world is what it is. The world's full of a. A lot of mess, man. I mean, there's all kinds of uncertainty, anxiety, upheaval, fear in the world right now. You got to watch who you hang out with, because words, circumstances, life events, they will fill that funnel. And that funnel is always going to be filled. It's never empty. People like to think they can empty their mind. No, you can't. It's always full of something. You know, people can take that statement and go a long way with it. You're always full of something. We are. So if we're not consciously depositing into that funnel, Josh, what we want in that funnel, it will be deposited, or things will be deposited in that we don't want, and we're Just kind of become a victim of that. And people need to understand that what goes into that funnel will channel into the brain and create that pharmacological aspect, function, expression of the brain. And we'll start making these hormones and making endorphins or not or neurotransmitters, and all the whole thing starts. And. And then we have the. The gut brain interactions going on. Because that funnel will create actions that we take, too. It'll create behaviors. So people that are living stressed out or in a toxic world will typically have behaviors that are toxic, too. So what comes in that funnel is really what we want to think about. And the Bible talks about that word in Romans. We should be renewing our mind every day. People can kind of take that and use the analogy I just gave. And it's like it's up to you to refill that funnel every day. Not once a week, not for 30 minutes. A little quasi church service on Sunday with video that doesn't do it. It's every day, all the time. And you got to be really aware of the present, man. You know, what are you doing right now? What's coming into that funnel right now, and what's that doing in your life? Because you can choose to be victimized by the world if you want to, or you can choose to be a victor from it. This depends on how you. How you perceive it. You know, when you go through stuff like I went through that I just talked about, you know, even when you see death, you know, in front of you, you know, when I was on the police department, it changes the way you do things. It changes the way you think. And when bad things happen to you for sometimes your choice, and sometimes not your choice, I think the question is not why did this happen to me? I think that's the improper question. The question is, why is this happening? What can I learn from it? And then you can begin to sort of shape what you put in that funnel, because if you don't do that, the alternative is what we've got. You kind of unconsciously exist on planet Earth going along like everybody else is going along. And right now, I don't need to tell you or the listeners, our world's in a bad place, and our country is in a worse place, and people are not thinking anymore. And one last thing I'll wrap that answer with is this is that when that mind is full of stuff from the world, people's ability to critically think through a situation is impaired. So they're really more reactionary than they are Responsive, they're more emotional based than they are logical. And therefore we've got a lot illogical, irrational things that are happening from the top down and bottom up. And that's a hard thing to realize. We want the world to change, I get it. But we can't change the world until we learn to allow ourselves to be changed. And so all I just said is a challenge for my listening right now to take charge of that funnel and really put in there what you want to put in there every day. And if it means, you know, changing your friends, changing what you watch on social media, changing how you behave, changing your habits, it's good. And we have an opportunity. As long as you have breath, you have a chance. So, man, I think people take that.
Chance and do it, you know. On my arm is a phrase in Italian, seposo desperare, which means if I can breathe, I can choose.
There you go.
And that's what we talk about in our BREATHE program with my students. And in my own life. Like, if I can remember, if I can flex my muscle of memory to remember to breathe in a moment of stress, in a moment of weakness and a moment of vulnerability, then my outcome is always going to be different. But if I don't breathe, if I hold my breath and I allow fear to take over, well, then I'm really pointing that funnel towards Facebook and Instagram and everything else that can fill it up. And then my life is being directed by something outside of me. And then I'm literally thinking toxic, which then turns into me eating toxic food, which then turns into me not detoxifying the chemicals in the EMF that we're being bathed in. Let's turn the gear here, because that's really where we are, I think, and I'm curious how you feel. I think the symptom of a toxic world are toxic people. And maybe you could even draw an arrow where the fish eats its tail. Maybe one feeds the other backwards and forwards. So if we're becoming toxified because of our environment, the soils, the food, even organic food, I was reading a study that 70% of organic food doesn't have the nutrients and the bioavailability that it did 20 years ago, 30 years ago. Think about that. I mean, we're spending all this money on organic food. So in other words, people are trying, with the level of consciousness and level of education they have to make the best health choices. Where do you think most people are missing the mark? When we look at detox and food and what they're actually putting into their body.
I think we've missed the mark with what I consider to be this current model that we operate under called the healthcare system. It's. It's so bizarre to me that we think that anything from that model would be good because America's health has been on a decline for the last 75 years.
What about the orange juice and the Cheerios they serve my mom for breakfast?
Yeah, it's just. It's horrible. You think about this. Just. I hope people step back, just step back from the edge right now and realize that this statement, America's health right now is by far the worst it's ever been in the history of mankind. And America's health is being exported around the world for profit. That is just like what. There are people that are living in this world that are in absolute darkness and bondage, and they don't even know it. And so they don't know where to go. The only source they have is a source that got them into bondage. And so they've always begin. They sort of begin to sympathize with their captor, you know, and so people have got to connect with, you know, the Josh Trent of the world and the audiences you have here, and you got to begin to create your own system, not think that system's going to change. There's too much money attached to that. I know, I've been there.
Sure.
It is really creating your own system. It's learning how to, you know, get some seeds and plant and maybe fish and hunt, if that's what you like to do. It's. It's getting disconnected. It's getting out of nature. It's selecting your friends better, it's getting true information. It's realizing that that doesn't work and it hasn't worked, and there's probably not anything good from that. If they tell you to do something, it's probably the opposite you want to do. You know, look, you mentioned, like, there's things that are subsidized these days. Think about this. Dairy, corn, soy, beer, the beef industry. I mean, do we really think those are healthy right now? They're not. And yet in the wheat industry, I can go on and on, but we don't need to be participating in that anymore. So I encourage people. In every podcast I've done before we went live, you asked me how many I've done the last couple years. It's probably a thousand. It's a lot. And this has been the same message I've had. And I hope that we're making A dent out there, because we sure need to.
Yes, well, on a lot of other episodes we've talked quite a bit about nutrient density, bioavailability. You're not just what you're eating, you are what you ate. Ate.
That's it. We've said that before. You know, just because you, you get something and you put it in your plate like we say, well, salmon is good because it has omega 3 content. Okay, that would be a partially true statement.
Yeah.
Right. But if the salmon is raised in a farm and it's fed stuff that salmon don't usually eat, it's bathed in antibiotics, that salmon's omega 3 to 6 content has been flipped, meaning it's not anti inflammatory anymore, but rather it's inflammatory.
Yeah.
And then you have to say, well, salmon is not necessarily good, but it depends on what kind of salmon you're getting. And so there's all this stuff about knowledge that's not out there because the government and the powers that be are going to continue to subsidize cheaper food under the idea that we need calories to survive instead of nutrition. And it's different. We don't live on calories, we live on nutrients that are designed to be produced from our soil, from our land. So when we eat something that eats that stuff, that thing that eats that should have the stuff in it. And so, you know, the soil's been depleted, we don't have the nutrient density we once did. And so we've got to figure out how to do it on our own. You know, you got to supplement properly, more so now than ever before. You got to pick your foods with wisdom. You got to pick your friends with wisdom. Because with the toxicity, the persistent organic pollutants that are in the world, we're always under the gun. Our bodies are extraordinary, they really are. I mean, our detox system is amazing. Why did God give us a detox system? I assume because we're going to face toxins, not just endotoxins, but also exotoxins, the ones from the outside. So for me, I'm trying to always instill into people we deal with, to do what you can do to make your own body's performance be better in this current environment. And to do that, you really have to stay on, on point with everything.
I look at the way that I found detox myself, it was because I was £280. I didn't know the first thing about how to eat or how to move. And so I went on this journey of self discovery. If I would have gone to a traditional wing of Western medicine. They may have put me on drugs when I was 20, you know, 22, 21 years old. And so I'm so glad that I just listened to myself. I listened to my soul. And, you know, if somebody on the podcast right now is watching or listening, Listen to your soul with what we're going to talk about today, about the ways that we can use things on earth that are, through the beauty of science, going to be so good for bolstering our immune system, our health, and to flood out these inside and outside toxins.
Yeah.
So let's begin the conversation, the one that we've been, like, fending on right here, thinking about the molecular hydrogen and how I even came across this. It was Dave Asprey, it was my buddy Luke story. It was a few other friends that had pointed me in this direction. And I reached out to the guys that, you know at Holy Hydrogen and they sent me a unit and I gave it a good test drive for a couple months. And I got to tell you, like, it feels amazing because I see it, I feel it. And then when I go throughout my day, I feel more nourished, I have, like, less thirst, if that even makes sense. I actually put element, which is the salt packets. I put it in the hydrogen water.
Smart move.
But there's so much science. I mean, there's hundreds of pages and they're linked right now. Wherever you're watching this or listening to this, below you, you can see this. Hundreds and hundreds of pages about the science of molecular hydrogen. It's crazy to me that I've been in this space for so long, and it's the first time I heard about this year. It's wild. When did you first hear about this molecular hydrogen?
Interestingly enough, my wife and I have a pretty diverse background in genetics. That's kind of how it began for us. We started running genes and analyzing snips, you know, single nucleotide polymorphisms years ago. And that kind of branched out, interestingly enough to us. We got into biochemistry of it because people listening might have been just said something that's Greek. But the bottom line is our. Our genes are about 99% similar between intra individuals. They've changed 2% in 10,000 years. So that's pretty much the most concrete thing I know to say. Right. Which is kind of freaky. With that said, that little less than 1% difference that we have means that the recipes that our genes do, they make proteins. That means that everybody has some differences in some of Those little proteins which makes us function or express ourselves differently. Some of the little proteins are within the enzymatic functions of our antioxidant system, or the way we quench or deal with free radicals. We all deal with them differently. And people might think that's not real, but I'll just use two examples. I mean, there are people that can drink caffeine at 9:30 at night and be asleep at 10.
My brother can do that. I'm like, how I would die.
There's a. There's a protein enzyme that obviously in that person is working very fast. Yeah, right. So it makes it metabolize quickly. The same is true with alcohol. Some people can have a glass of alcohol and it makes them tipsy or neurotoxic. Some people can have two, and it doesn't. Same difference. Some people have a tendency to have higher free radical buildup, some don't. But ultimately, free radical buildup, genetically speaking and biochemically speaking, is a part of our life. Just breathing, talking, sitting, driving a car, you know, exercising. It requires energy. And that mitochondria cranks that energy. And just like any other PowerPoint, Josh, or power plant, it leaves waste products. Those waste products are free radicals. So I was getting into this and I realized something early on within the pre radical conversation, that there are numerous free radicals people have heard of, like superoxide, like hydrogen peroxide. Okay, they all have little purposes, but there's one that has no purpose that I know of other than evil intent. And it's called hydroxyl radical. Like what is that? Well, it's one of the free radicals that gets produced if your body doesn't quench in a normal capacity. Those ones that have good purpose. Right. So when you get that hydroxyl radical built up, Josh, from a biochemical standpoint, there's only one thing that the body has in its disposal or its arsenal to deal with it. Guess what that is. Hydrogen. That's it. And so the body actually produces hydrogen in the gut as a typical function. But how many people today cannot have good function because of the lack of nutrients in their bodies? So therefore people are lacking hydrogen production? I think we're assuming that, but I think that's a reasonable assumption. And because of that, they have excess free radicals. We see people aging faster than they should. We see people getting sicker quicker than they should. We see the. The chronic elevation of chronic systemic inflammation, which is a root of every disease process. Could it be excess free radicals? Most likely. That's a high component of. Yes, Right. And So when we have the ability to use hydrogen as the smallest molecule on our elemental table, that can go in there and we can drink it, we can breathe it, we can bathe in it, we can put it on topically. Right. When we have that, we're able to selectively dismantle those excess free radicals, hydroxyl radical, I'm specifically speaking of. And that gives you some sense of control over the elements we have to deal with out here. As far as I'm concerned, this particular science, it's going to be pushed back on, I tell you right now. So if you're listening to this, you need to, you need to hear me, you need to push this because it's not going to be pushed. Your GP is not going to push it, CDC is not going to push it. FDA is not going to push it, they're going to push back against it because it makes too much sense, right?
Well, actually it doesn't make enough sense for them, money, money wise.
Yeah.
It's interesting because in Japan, this conversation happens on a different level.
It does. Like in Japan, you know, you get to some of the Asian countries, Korea, etcetera, People are more healthy.
Yeah.
And it's not because they're any smarter than we are. It's the same science. But they've just looked at the body in a different way. Like I look at disease process as such, you know, with my background, I mean, I'll see a person come in, they have a bunch of symptoms, like, all right, I get it. Those are real. They feeling them, they're experiencing them. I get it. The way we're viewing that in this country is those symptoms go into an algorithmic kind of formula and then someone might prescribe a medication to manage the symptoms. Is that bad or good? Well, it might be good in little windows of time, but it didn't solve the question, why are the symptoms there? So that's what I like to look at. If I can look for the root cause of a symptom and address that root cause, where the root cause is corrected, maybe the body begins to function better, the symptom is non existent, therefore the conversation about diseases becomes irrelevant. And so when I'm looking at these things right here, like hydrogen, et cetera, and other things that I've used and do use, we have the ability to sort of live in a proactive way. It's like back to our little funnel analogy. If we could have something we did every day and we can get into your habits and routines, affirmative statements, et cetera. I know you know about that?
Sure.
If we can begin to do that and begin to fill that funnel, fill our life with things that are going to produce good fruit, good results, why wouldn't we do that? And we should, but I think we don't sometimes because we don't know. And too many people don't know about what we're talking about today.
Yeah. And maybe it's even a phrase that I learned last year in nlp and that is unconscious incompetence. They don't even know, Mark, that they don't know.
No, they don't.
Literally. And so it's not a shame conversation or a blame conversation. It's more about just bringing something to light that's already there. It's kind of like opening a closet and being like, oh, yeah, I forgot that was in there.
Totally.
Or I didn't even know that was in there. So I, I think about this and I was feeling into this because we have it at home. We have the unit at home and I actually love it. It's this glowing blue light. It's on the screen right now, you guys. The light glows blue. It's like this cool, soothing little unit. I think it's pretty sweet, the blue light. Maybe it's like the wellness dork in me, you know, it's kind of fun.
Yeah.
But, but I, but I love, what I love the most is that when I look at it, I can see the bubbles coming up. I know that the transport is happening through the machine in this very specific way. And this is what I love the most. And actually I wanted to ask you about this too. So this is the ph neutral, non toxic natural hydrogen. It's called chamber electrolysis. A lot of people that take the tablets and so I'm not here to poo poo on anybody's dream. If you want to take tablets of hydrogen, well, guess what? It's better than, than not. But there's a whole nother level. Yeah. Right. Talk to us about this, the chamber electrolysis, because the first time I've heard of it.
Well, when you use like the elemental magnesium to create, you know, the hydrogen bubbles that we see in the little tablets. Right. I use those for years and they're not bad. I mean they do create hydrogen infused gas infused water.
Yeah.
But it does. You get some other little metallic taste to turns gray and you're going to get a little bit of a sweet metallic taste to it. So it's not necessarily going to be the most pleasant experience in the world.
Sure.
But it will do the job, I want to say it will do the job. But when you talk about this machine and you use that little. You see the device, and hopefully people are going, wow, that's cool. That little motor at the bottom of that, that you plug in, in this case, it's not made of plated metals. It's made of the real thing, you know, real metals, like a titanium or something like that. So I like the construction, but that machine is creating that down there hydrogen gas, and it's infusing straight upward into the water. So the gas is being infused in the water at the same time. That's what those little bubbles are. It's almost like putting carbon dioxide into water, making it carbonated water. This is making it hydrogenated water. And it's not changing the molecular structure of the water. It's just putting hydrogen in there as a carrier. It doesn't, like, mix with it, it just sits in it. Right. And so the good thing about that is now we have the ability to deliver molecular hydrogen through something as simple as water, even by drinking it. So it carries the hydrogen in their body. The hydrogen doesn't mix with anything, but it's carried in there, and it's safe. Because, you know, molecular hydrogen is flammable, isn't it? Right. So it can blow up, but not in water. And so we have the ability to deliver something into the body in a pure way. And I like the concepts of what Holy Hydrogen is doing. Pure, clean.
Yeah.
No other metals. To me, that's appealing. Good mechanisms, good machinery, solid budget conscious, budget friendly. I don't know how it can get any better than that, because, like, you compare that to the tablets, which, again, do work, but they might be a couple dollars a piece, and if you're drinking it like you should, you might go through 4 to 8 or 10 of those tablets a day, and that can be pretty expensive. And so I didn't know about Holy Hydrogen several years ago, and. And I was using tablets, and I got approached by a bunch of people that had different machines, and I was like, no. But when I met them, I saw integrity. And so, you know, integrity goes a long way with me.
Yeah, me too. Because when I'm not in integrity, something else has to give. When I'm not in integrity with my word, when I'm not in integrity with what I do, when there's a mismatch there, something breaks. That's when people get sick. I think that's why we're dealing with sickness on a grand scale in our country. And to bring it back to this conversation of how do we bolster our immune system so that when we're bathing in the emf, the chemicals, the phytotoxins, everything that's happening really for us. Because I think that encapsulated in the chaos is the answer is the love itself. But we're just kind of in that shitty phase right now. We're twisting and we're turning, turning like the, the caterpillar and the chrysalis and we're about to flap our wings, but we're, you and I are still in the soup. Like, we're still there. So. So while we're there, we get to have things like this. It's not even a question of like, oh, should I do this? Instead of going and getting drunk on the weekend, I'll tell you what, you could have hydrogen in your life for a couple weekends or less of not drinking the money you spend on alcohol and partying and things that really actually harm you. They might, the unconscious mind, the ego might be like, oh, this is super fun and I'm getting joy out of this. But really there's a cost. The cost to benefit ratio is super high. So to bring it around, like hydrogen is created in the body, you talked about this, but it's created in small amounts. The way that we can really super hydrogenate our system through drinking a glass of hydrogen water that's never really existed before. Like when, when did this science even come online?
I think you go back and you can look at some of the originators of the thought process and you're not going to find them in America. You're going to go over to the, to the Asia people.
Was it Japan? Where? Japan, where it started?
Japan, Korea. And there's some discussion on where it began, but ultimately is over there somewhere. And they started thinking about things differently and like, it makes sense if you know biochemistry and I just kind of described it to people that if you could use hydrogen, you could figure out a carrier and you could bring that in and more frequent, more voluminous dosage, it'd probably be good for you. And I'm grateful that they figured it out. You know, it's like people today here in America might be able to associate this with the idea of hyperbaric chamber. Yeah, you know, high oxygenation, oxygen provides healing. Well, duh. So they figure out a way to put that in the body more. This is the same type of thought process. And I, I honor that. It's good. And I think that this even makes more sense because as far as we know, there's no downside to any of this. You can't drink too much, you can't take too much. There's nothing negative, but all positive. I don't know of any other thing that would be that at present, you know, and we have to drink to live. And it seems like to me the perfect match, right? But I think that in our country today, although I'd like to see this in every hospital, I'd like to see this in every clinic, I like to see this in every home, I think that it probably won't be. I think the, the true heroes of really health would be people like yourself. They're going to carry this message from person to person to person, from mouth to mouth, word to word. And I think that's probably the best way to do it anyway today.
So then why is it, why isn't it a normal conversation in every hospital in America?
Well, I think you got to get right down to it.
But it's gotten so many results. I mean, right now in the show notes, there's literally hundreds of research, third party placebo, blind study, research that validates hydrogen and healing.
Well, my wife and I, you know, we are detached from the system, right? We, we operate our own clinic, we do our own thing. We're not connected at all. We don't do insurance, none of that. But let's think about that. Starting off with the fda, Food and Drug Administration, and I'll ask our listeners a facetious question. What do food and drugs have in common? I don't know.
I've never actually thought about that before.
Makes no sense to me. It's a marriage made in hell. Sure, sure, right. Additionally, why is Big Pharma advertising through the television to our children? We're one of the few countries in the world that even allow that. Again, another question. Next question. Why do our politicians accept money from one of the largest lobbying groups in our country, Big Pharma, Pfizer et al. Right. Why, when you have that scenario lined out there and then you have on top of that for profit health systems, they're not nonprofit for profit. So if people either have a business, right, let's say you have a, I don't know, a tire shop, would you think it wisdom to teach people how to not use your services? I wouldn't. I'd figure out a creative way to make it so that they needed me more. That's exactly what we have today, a system that is designed to get people believing that a pill will fix their ill, that a pill, a Management of disease is just what you need to do. Being on medications is just normal that maybe God in his awesomeness made us pharmaceutical deficient. I'm being funny with that, but you get my point. And so we're stuck in a box. And like you mentioned earlier, you don't know what you don't know what you don't know. People right now are in a prison. This whole thing we call health care is a prison. And they're stuck in it so deep, they don't even know how to get out. And they're so conceptually locked in because even you know, in the past, you have to have health insurance or we're going to fine you. Okay, what is health insurance? When does it pay? Not when you're well. When does life insurance pay? Not when you're alive. I mean, we know this, but yet it goes right over our head when we start talking logically about it. So I think those are a big answer to a short question, but that's part of the answer on why it is. And I don't think you're going to see this. I mean, my wife, I'll give her kudos. Amazing lady. People that know her story are blown away. You know, first she was homeless. Who goes from homeless to top of their medical class? Who has a survivor mentality like that? That's why our, you know, our marriage is a match made in heaven. No question. And then once she got into healthcare, you know, I'm a naturopath and she is a do. An osteopathic doctor. She stayed for a few years and got kicked out and got fired because too many people got too well and she didn't run enough studies. She was doing her job. She was doing exactly what a doctor should do, is provide healing for the people. But she was terminated because of that. But hence the birth of the Functional Medical Institute. So we're treading new water. We're leading the way out here. We're doing things differently. I mean, been asking a lot of podcasts about all the stuff that we do. We do hormones, peptides. We study glycobiology. We do genetics. I mean, a lot of cool stuff. We're out there on the edge, and I found that people like yourself.
Are.
Truly our colleagues in this. You know, colleagues aren't in mainstream medicine. Colleagues are people. People that want to be well, want to learn.
Something tells me if Pfizer had a podcast, it wouldn't do that good.
Yeah, people.
I don't think people would listen.
They wouldn't. And I think right now they've got such a monopoly on media.
Yeah.
You know, people are locked into nothing else.
You know what I love that just happened recently. So we're recording this podcast in September, which I think it'll be out in a couple of weeks here. And just recently there was this huge tennis tournament and one of the athletes said no to the Moderna vaccine. And Moderna sponsored the whole thing. There's like these huge ads. I thought it the most heavenly, ironic thing that this athlete that literally said no and he almost got kicked out of sports, or maybe he even did. Right.
He couldn't play in the tournament.
He couldn't play. They didn't let him play because he wasn't vaccinated. I mean, this is like the kind of truth that's on full display. You cannot hide the truth when it's bubbling up so hard, when it's bubbling up so fast. Kind of like the bubbling of this hydrogen. I mean, I've been drinking the hydrogen now over two months. It's been almost three months. And the truth about this is like, I just enjoy the way I feel. The science point, I want to get into a little bit deeper with you because the feeling is like our greatest report card. When you feel well, you have a greater capacity to love and care for others so that they feel well. I mean, that's kind of like logical science, right?
No doubt.
It's also something that we don't need an explanation for. You just know, like when you walked into the room, I was like, okay, I like him and I feel good when I'm around him. Our body has a redox system that understands your chemicals and my chemicals and your micro muscles and your face and can we trust each other? There's things that are unconscious that are happening at all times, but the science behind hydrogen, I think most people, in order to actually make the investment, in order to care for themselves in this way, they have to get excited about what science has shown them, especially the analytical brains. Right. The people that maybe don't necessarily always go with their North Star and their intuition. One of the things. I freaking loved that. It blew me away. Molecular hydrogen has 10 times the antioxidant, anti inflammatory and health benefits of vitamin C. Due to vitamin C is a large molecule and hydrogen is smaller. Talk about that. It literally can go places in the body that other vitamins cannot.
Yeah. So when you look at this, I think most people would understand the idea of antioxidants. Right. We. We know there was a big push several years ago to, you know, take Your antioxidants because you, you can get free radical buildup.
That's when the wine drinkers were like, well, there's antioxidants in the grapes in my wine.
It's like, yeah, like saying there is at least one molecule of health in that hamburger, you know, but the bottom line is, you know, people got antioxidants like vitamin Cs of the world with veritrol, you know, vitamin, etc. And under the idea that they could take these vitamins and that would immediately dismiss or diminish the free radical load. But they discovered over time that because of the size of those things, namely vitamin C as you mentioned, they don't permeate the membranes as well. Therefore they don't have the efficacy as well as something else. And so if you look at this, one molecule of vitamin C would mitigate one molecule of a free radical. So think one to one. Well, that idea is fine except when you start unraveling it with what really happens in the body. There are internal antioxidants that are produced. Whoa. They deal with free radicals. Instead of a one to one. They are more than a thousand to one or even hundreds of thousands to one. That's what that study is talking about. So our body's ability to create the diminishment of the free radicals is so much more, so much bigger than anything we think we can add to it. Right. And again, that's God's manifest excellence. That's beyond anything we can understand. Our own bodies has what's called the antioxidant regulatory element. Are, and that are is activated on its own when toxins are exposed to our body. Makes sense. Toxins, if they don't get dismissed from our body or wasted out, they get stored in the fat tissue. People today are very overweight, making us very toxic. When toxins build up, we don't get the antioxidant regulatory element triggered like we should because it becomes a toxic overload. Toxicity yields toxicity yields toxicity. Before you know it, it's absolute poison. I mean, a little bit goes a long ways, but when it's toxic, it's toxic. It's like a toxic water supply will kill all the fish, but it doesn't kill all the fish immediately, it kills some of the fish. When it all becomes toxic, nothing can live there. And that's where people are right now. So when you look at that study like that and you find out, wait a minute, we can bring in hydrogen, which mimics what the body does from that 1000 to 1 ratio or more I'm in. That makes sense. And so we do need nutrients, though. Nutrients get absorbed and assimilated into the cell. The cell actually has a life of its own, you know, and it generates action. So cells make proteins, proteins make tissues, tissues make organs, organs make organ systems, and organ systems makes the organism. So we have to have cellular nutrition. That's important. But cellular nutrition is not going to help us if we've got too many free radicals that destroy the cells. So it's almost like a catch 22. We've got to make a decision to do what we can, what we have control over, such as drinking a glass of water that might have hydrogen in it, or we just become victimized by a toxic society that's going to get more toxic where nobody can live. And people might not like to hear this, but people are not living right now. Longer, they're dying longer. They're not living through life, they're dying through life. And so what I call their 6 band is increasing, and interestingly enough, the last couple of years, the lifespan has decreased. A couple years, yeah.
You know what fascinates me is I think it was Thoreau. He said, most men lead lives of quiet desperation, and I believe in that. And I also think that it's a misnomer because we don't have to be desperate in life, but in order for us to not be desperate, we have to be empowered. If I'm not empowered, if I'm disempowered by some kind of a belief set or even by the environment that I'm in, that's why this entire studio, I think we have 1, 2, 3, we have 4 different EMF blocking tools in this studio. So you're in a very clean emf.
Oh, my God, I feel better already.
EMF zone. And then, you know, the supplements. And so I've designed my life to be. Well, yeah, but. But it's because I. I came from £280. I came from the dark side to find the light. And I'm still finding the light every day through my own, you know, I guess you could say epigenetic, emotionally and mentally. Things that I'm still letting, as we all are, is to be an imperfect human. But what's really interesting is that so many people can justify, like, oh, I'm just going to go hang out with my friends and drink, or I'm going to go hang out with these people and do these things that I actually know I shouldn't be doing, but I'm still going to do them anyways.
Yeah.
And I just have a news flash for everyone. They're not actually your friends.
They're not.
They're not your friends. And if you weren't doing the things that you were doing that you promised yourself you wouldn't do, they wouldn't hang out with you anyways.
Dude, I can. I can tell you a thousand percent certainty. My wife and I have experienced things in our lives. I mean, we're, you know, we're coming up on 60 years of age. We've been through a lot.
Yeah, you look good for 60.
I appreciate it.
Come on.
Yeah, I still get up and do what I did when I was 30s, you know, but the thing is, you're. You're. When you're a leader, you're going to be an outcast. And that's just a hardcore truth. You better get over it. Because misery loves company. And I've seen people that have came to see us, and we talk about changing habits, changing friends. Well, they're my friends. But what happens is, invariably if a person is not drinking anymore and they show up in that same group, that group is going to make fun of them and ridicule them and think, what's wrong with you? My wife and I get that all the time. And we'll show up. We get great opportunities to go speak at different places. And I'm really blessed. It's. I'm overwhelmed with the gratitude with that. It's great. But we'll show up and there'll be several speakers, and we'll go in the green room, and the minute we walk in, we'll hear comments like, oh, there's a Sherwood. You caught me. And they'll be holding a cupcake or something, or a cookie. I don't care what they do.
Are you the food police?
Yeah. I don't know. But we get those comments, you know, and we get called strict and radical and hardcore. But look, Josh, living well is not hardcore. That's normal, and it should be normal. But we live in a world where the normalcy has been translated now abnormalcy, and the abnormalcy has been accepted as normalcy. What was once unheard of. Like, I can't even believe we're doing this is now. I can't believe we're not doing it. The moral code, the ethical code, the health code, they've all been busted wide open. And so now, what was wrong is now right. And what is right is now wrong. So even people listening right now, when you make the decision. I didn't say if. When you make the decision, say I'm not going to participate in that system that's making me sick anymore and make my kids sick and make my kids kids sick. Kids right now have no chance in this world. They don't. Not unless the parents step up and do something about their world. Yeah, and this is an opportunity people have and you might feel left out of some of those groups, but I'm telling you, there's other groups out there that will accept you and embrace you and encourage you as opposed to bring you into discouragement.
The societal narrative is interesting around health. Right now on the screen I'm remembering this. I just saw this this morning when I was on Instagram. I actually designed my feed so that it gives me positive things and I follow people and if I ever see someone that posts something that is in align with my values, I just delete them and I move on. And I saw this clip this morning that's on the screen right now and it was about physical education in the 1960s. And you're seeing these men with pegboards and their pull ups and everything else. And this is just literally 40 to 60 years ago in the time span of the earth. This is like a half of a blink of an eyeball. And I'm curious how you see this because I'm sure patients come in from across the world to the center in Oklahoma. Why do you think that we aren't there anymore? Like what are the things that we get to be more aware of so we can be more empowered to not let them infiltrate in our lives and the lives of our children.
It was a slow bleed. It kind of began back. You remember JFK before he was assassinated. God bless his soul, he was champion. That kind of stuff right there. You know that the idea of physical education, I mean he had, he was.
The man when it came to physical education.
He was. And if you go back and people go back and just, just maybe type in or do a search on JFK's physical education program and you're going to see some incredibly inspiring little videos that they made back then. They're black and white, but there, there was nobody overweight.
No. Not one.
The ability to be fit gives you the ability to be mentally fit, gives you the ability to be spiritually fit, gives you the ability to be intellectually fit, gives you the ability to be financially fit. I mean those things, those five mantras you deal with. The lack of health to me is the greatest distraction in a person's life to prevent them from having the fullness of life. Think about that. The last Couple of years have been nothing about anything but death and fear and lack of health. That's all we've talked about. How's that working for us, America? Not very well. But it was a slow bleed. That kind of began back in the 80s with the food pyramid when our infamous United States government started thinking, these people are so stupid, they don't know how to deal with their own health. And they came up with this idea about that time that fat was bad and that fat free was the way to go. And that cholesterol causes heart disease and that we better make some foods quickly that are going to fill this. 6 to 11 servings of grains and breads a day, because that's important. So you started seeing big heavy subsidies there, along with lobbyists. And that was brought into the education of our people through schools, through our children. I learned that when I was in school. But I look back at it and I think they didn't know anything they were talking about. And all that did at that time was it begin to indoctrinate the society to a certain style of culture, a style of life, a lifestyle. And eventually they saw that that lifestyle was one that yielded physical ailments like diseases. Well, there's big pharma right there waiting in the wings because they got the answer. So we created the problem. We created the answer, which is not an answer. And it's a spinning wheel that has gotten nowhere fast. It's dug us deeper like a post hole digger. And we are not getting out of this. We're so deep into it. And the answer is not, as I've stated, to change that, because it won't. The answer is to create your own. Create a brand new system of some of those principles that we know to be true. And when we do that, we might draw a few people over from that. Call it the dark side, call it the bondage, call it the prison. They might see a little bit of light, but somebody has to lead the way. And I think that's what happened over time. And then, you know, I mentioned Big Pharma advertises on tv, you know, and you can't get out of it. You know, you mentioned the Fruity Pebbles and stuff like that. The cereals are feeding kids. Worst thing to do. Milk doesn't do a body good. You know, you get all the point with that, you know, and it's just a. It's a commercialism. It's a thing that really drove society.
I grew up in San Diego, California, and you know, shout out to San Diego, I Love it. It's a beautiful city. We left because we wanted more freedom. And at the time in 2020, Kerry, Michelle was pregnant with our first child. And we wanted to go somewhere where we didn't have any threats that our children were going to be jabbed or taken away. I mean, it was. It was a sense of fear in 2020 that I think really showed the colors of a lot of people that maybe one didn't even know were there. In other words, you really found out in 2020 who your crew was.
You did, right?
Who your homies were, who your friends are. And when I got to Texas, I started to reflect back on this, and I remembered I went to college for two months. I've actually never had, like, any formal education besides high school yet, you know, knock on wood, I've hired and fired people with master's degree. So, you know, have 2 cents for.
That irony of that.
So. So I'm. I'm in this space of memory right now with you because you're talking about in the 80s. I was born in 1980. And the way that the food pyramid was really jousted onto people and they didn't ask for it, no one asked for it. But I think really where it came from was something on a plaque that I saw at San Diego State when I was there. I think it was 2010 or 2009. And it was this quote from someone. And at the bottom it said, sponsored by Kraft Foods. And when I read that, I was just really beginning my journey into understanding holistic health. I'd already been a trainer for a long time. Something did not sit well with my nervous system when I read that. And then I went home and I studied and I actually found a friend. Shout out to Sean Croxton. At the time was a guy who went to San Diego State, and he had this channel back in the day called Underground Wellness. And I saw what he was doing where he was putting out messages for people that were really underground.
Wow.
Much like the messages you and I are talking about today, just on a grand scale. And it never sat with me correctly. And from that day, I started to see the deception that exists between not just pharma, but the triangle of health insurance, pharma and Big Food.
That's it.
And how they feed each other from a profiteering model. Can you go into that a little bit? Because at the end of that is empowered choices for us to never even contribute to that system at all.
Yeah. So think about this from the standpoint of Big Food. Big Food is nothing More than lobbyists that seek subsidies from the government into their special interests. Big food subsidize, you know, the weak. Corn, soy, dairy, beer, you know, blah blah blah. And what they do is through those subsidies they, they make those foods cheap. They're calorically loaded, but they're nutrient absent. I call them non foods or unfoods or even if you want to get graphic franken foods, they're not. Yeah, the body looks at those things as foreign. Therefore there are toxic and they're inflammatory. So the body, there's not food. I don't care what people think, I don't care what they tell you. I don't care what your nutritionist says. They're not food. They are not in the original package. God made them bottom line. So we've got that going on. Well that yielded and yields, that's big food. They profit on that because the more they can get the money from the government, they lower the prices, we pay it. And that will keeps on turning right tie in big medicine, big pharma. Big pharma is connected to big food through the F D A. So big pharma knows this, they have this discussion. I know this sounds evil, but let's say they're not really evil and don't know that they're doing evil, but they are evil, which can happen to all of us by the way. If we're not really activating our faith and trying to be truthful and be the light, we're going to be full of darkness. That's the fallback. So here's big food acting in concert with big drug big pharma. So now big pharma sees that and the diseases that are yielded are blossom from that. Big pharma is going to capitalize on that because they're going to have a pill, I. E Enter statin drugs to lower cholesterol, intermetformin, just a blood sugar drug and the glipizide, all these ones that are out there now. So now you've got big food, big drug tied together. Well, let's look at these systems. Then you got big medicine. Okay, what is that? We have health care, but it's not health care, it's sick care. And the sick care doctors now they can't do what they want to do. They can't even do what they might want to do. They want to talk about this, they can't. They lose their job.
I think I read they get like less than five minutes per patient. Totally three minutes or something.
But that's not controlled by Them that's controlled by the business entities behind the system. So like a system now is not nonprofit, it's for profit. So the bean counters are back there. They're trying to get people racketed through there. And you might have to see eight or nine people in an hour. Right, to get to earn your salary. And they know that you bring in this dollar. But they look at the insurance right now as a value. So insurance to them now is not trying to pay for what's right. It's like a credit card. Better insurance, better reimbursements, and that's the way it's viewed. So everything's about a dollar. It's a big old wheel that's just stuck in the profit model. So who suffers from that? The people. People do. And you take this one step further, let's talk about education. How about medical school education? Are they trained in hydrogen? No. Are they trained in simple nutrition? Maybe two hours? My wife told me that. Are they trained in the benefits of nitric oxide? No. Are they trained in peptides? No. And hormones are bad genetics. Well, we don't know about them, but they're bad. They're trained in a system that's driven and funded by, guess what? Big pharma. So big government, big pharma fund, big education. Big education now is nothing more than legalized drug dealers that provide medications through the model of our sick care system to manage people who are made sick by the same system. And that's where we're at right now. And we've got to realize that there are people out there that are on five medications. And you've never heard this conversation before again, God bless you. It's a good day, you know, It's.
A good day to change.
It's a great day to get this stuff. And now you're not ignorant anymore. Ignorance can be bliss until you realize ignorance is deadly. And it's like me when I started learning this stuff. I can't unlearn it. I mean, think about that for a moment. Yeah, it's like you know this stuff and somebody's in front of you and you're like, I want to help you, but you're not getting this. It is heartbreaking. The pressure and the burden my wife and I hold is big because we know all that. But what I just explained to people is the truth. And people are going to try to convince you otherwise. But all I do is I look at it, Josh, with this. What I said was true because it's proven out by their own statistics, their own Statistics will confirm what I just said to be true. Because our health trends are so bad right now, they're the worst in history. We're creating more diseases faster than we're growing people. Their own statistics tell them how bad they are and they don't hide them. Look at the CDC website. Look at the obesity crisis. You mentioned you were overweight. Do we understand that obesity is the fastest growing non communicable disease in the history of mankind? Do we understand that right now, at least 70% of the United States of America population is either obese or overweight children. Right now, 20% are obese. I've seen kids that are type 2 diabetic. Right now, one in two Americans are insulin resistance and probably don't know it. Right now you're seeing predictions to be one in three children to be on diabetic drugs by the time they're 40. And this is a big one. Autism was one in 40,000 40 years ago. Today it's less than one in 40. Statistics continue that trend. One in two by 2050. We worry about our country being destroyed by other countries. We're destroying ourselves. So I'm here to protect people from themselves.
Amen.
I'm saying look in the mirror and make some changes.
It's so good because when we look in the mirror, there's just what we see looking right back at us. So I actually, when I was a trainer, I would have my clients get totally naked or whatever, you know, clothing they were comfortable with, and I would have them tell themselves in the mirror, I love you.
Amen.
And I'll tell you what, like 8 to 10, 8 out of 10 people.
Could not do it, or they start crying if they did, or, or they'd.
Feel waves of shame. It's almost like the compacted emotions. I'm curious how you feel about this, being a naturopathic physician, because really, naturopathic, that term, if you go back to nature itself, the further away we're divorced from nature, the more disease that we're going to basically embody, we're going to embody disease. So if I'm looking in a mirror and I'm not loving myself, and I finally do start the process of loving myself, all the shame and guilt and judgment and all the things that I've been feeling for so long that were driving all my food habits in the first place, that were driving my drug habits, and I know this from my own personal experience and working with clients in gyms for 10 years, that's all gonna start to bubble up and when that bubbles up, there is nowhere to go besides pain, anguish, torment. But eventually at the end of that. Right, Just like in the Bible.
Yep.
And you know, I don't identify myself as a Christian, but I do identify myself as a man who believes in a higher power. And I think we're all on our own journey there. You've mentioned God a few times. So I want to let people know, like I accept all faiths, I accept all beliefs. I think that we're actually all following the same energy of love inside of us and outside of us. But we have to have the courage to look in the damn mirror. If we're not looking in the mirror, Mark, then we're not going to be able to have that self recognition process. Nothing's going to start to bubble up. And then guess what, we're just going to put our dollars and cents in that broken system you described and it's all going to happen unconsciously. And then we'll wake up one day when we're 80 and we'll go, wow, what happened? And I will be damned if I will be like that or my children will be like that or anybody watching or listening to this will be like that.
You can't. There's a, in that situation, people's inability to love themselves, they truly have forgotten who they are. Right. They have been defrauded of their life. Fraud is a crime. If somebody steals the identity of you and uses it for their benefit, you're the victim. Right. People have been victimized by this. And I'm going to give them an analogy now that, that hopefully will be life changing. I want to look at the word fraud. Frauds with an S as an acronym. Fear, resentment, anger, unforgiveness, disappointment, shame. When you're living in those things, you don't know who you are and you actually become somebody else. And I know you've had this happen and I have some people might say to themselves or someone else they love, I really don't know who I am anymore. Heard that before. They don't. That's true. And when they deal with those frauds and they get them out of there, it's like pulling weeds out of a garden. It's painful, man. It's pruning and it hurts. But it provides the opportunity for new growth. Why is that important? Just what you said, if you can't love yourself, you don't have the capability to love others fully. You don't. And there's a scripture in the Bible that I really like. You know, love your neighbor. Comma, as yourself. Well, okay, I'm supposed to love people, but how do I do that? You got to love yourself first. You got to figure that out. And that does not come without pain, you know, because you can live in trauma and drama and fear and all that stuff for years. You can carry that forward, I promise you, and you'll have a pretty easy time doing it. But if you'll do the work, man, and get behind that and do what I would call a fraud's assessment, you know, you'll. You'll probably find yourself seeing some daylight and seeing some hope that you haven't seen in years or maybe never in your life.
I love that, man. And, you know, the Bible's got some great wisdom.
A lot of.
A lot of religious texts have timeless wisdom, but they get clouded by the ego of man that tries to control them and wield them as something that they're not much like so many things in health. Which is why, you know, when you sat down today, before we started recording, I said, you know, I think the magic of this podcast is I'm just honest about what works for me, and I'm honest about what doesn't. I'm honest about my pain. I'm honest about my joy. It's honesty that actually ties it all together. Without honesty and integrity, what are we to do in this world? It's so easy to receive money for something you don't believe in. It's so easy to get notoriety and fame, and really, you're suffering on the inside, and you're really portraying yourself as somebody that you.
You.
You actually aren't. We're in, like, this spiritual malady here on planet Earth. And in my opinion, I want to know how you feel. In my opinion, the only way out is to seek something higher than yourself. That's the only way out of this dystopian nightmare that it seems like the Orwellian clocks are ticking on what's happening to our children and our minds and our society and, you know, forced medical jabs and just forced. So many things being forced to. The only way out is through. We've got to be able to band together and move through this thing as an actual tribe, as a tribe that cares about each other and cares about our health. How do we do that? Can you solve all of our world's problems? Now, the reason I'm asking you this, most people don't know. You were a candidate for the governor of Oklahoma in 2022, and when you went into it, you said, you know, I just connected with God. And this wasn't about winning. This was about making a difference. It was about bringing a new voice to it. So how do we do this? I know it's a political question, but politics were supposed to be from the start something that actually were for the people.
Well, leaders should be about what they can do for the people. They represent or represent the desires of the people. And that's been switched now. Leaders today are, what can you do? For me, it's individual money pots. It's million dollar careers. Go do the old retirement home in Washington. Right? That's what that is. And, and people need to realize what that is. Leaders are not afraid to challenge the culture. I'll use a story that people know. I'll use a biblical text story like Moses. Here's a guy who, who wasn't perfect, you know, he even killed somebody. He wasn't perfect. And he was tasked with going to the ruling parties of that day and saying, man, you're oppressing these people. What are you doing? What are you doing? And even in his struggle with being that guy, he was complaining that he didn't speak very well. You know, I can't do this. But he did. He was obedient. And that's all I was doing when we decided to run, being obedient to get people a different way, to get people out of that bondage, to give them that there's somebody out here that's not afraid of these people. People that's not afraid to stand up on behalf of the people and not going to do it in a hateful intent. I don't have to insult anybody. That's not my life. I don't have to attack anybody to do that. All I have to do is communicate in love, the people are hurting, right? And be willing to step out there and say, you know, I'll lead you. I'll do that. Will you go with me? So we do it together. See, that's what we should be doing together, and we're not. But to that end, we're at a crisis moment right now that if the people don't start following and finding leaders and being leaders, instead of trusting these people that are out for their own good, that forgotten who they were, that can't relate to the common man, that don't give a damn about the person in the parking lot because they can't give them a million dollars, look, the homeless person is just as important as I am. Every human being is important. And we're at that moment in time where we've got to get out of the culture. It's almost like the Israelites, but yet I get it, man. That's powerful. And I don't know how this happens, but I think this is the answer. We're kind of at that Red Sea moment, you know, I don't know how that Red Sea is going to part. I have no idea. But I do know that if we believe we are created by a creator, and I believe it's God, whatever, people, is fine. But I believe we're created by a creator, and that creator loves us so much, or he wouldn't put us here. He wouldn't have made Josh Trent, he wouldn't have made Mark Sherwood. He wouldn't have made us. So he did, and he put us here. So therefore, he cares about us and he loves us, so he's got a plan for us. And we've got to get out of the idea of trusting mankind's plans, you know? Do you believe for a moment, you or any other parent out here, that God or whoever you say made your children? How did that happen? I mean, how does that happen? That's so.
It's so mysterious and magical, right?
And because of that, we're at a place where for people to seek a higher power, an understanding that maybe is requiring a little bit of faith, maybe big faith that doesn't make any sense, to just see if that Red Sea will part. Because what do you got to lose? I guarantee you that army that's going to come in behind you is going to swallow you up. And that's the mission. This world will swallow you up and spit you out. And has no conscience at all about hurting anybody. I mean, we just talk about food and drug.
Sure.
They don't have any conscience at all. America is suffering right now, and nobody cares. Not the leaders. They continue to support lowering drug prices. Stop. They're not talking about health. Stop. They're not talking about your ability to hold a job. They're not even wanting you to go to work. They want you to sit home and draw a paycheck on them. So we've got to begin to trust that time, that faith. And again, I don't have all the answers, Josh, but I know who does. And it's not me. It's not another man. It's something bigger than us. And for me, it's God. And I just have to trust him in that. And I'm going to trust him to protect me and guide me and direct me and give me wisdom and. And opportunities to be on great podcasts like this, you know, because it gives people hope. And the last thing I want to say with that is this is. Fear can be contagious. Right. And it has been. But we need to make a new contagion. It's called hope. We need to become hope dealers to the world. So a dope dealer, we need a hope dealer. And that's what my wife and I have tried to do in our, in our lives.
It's beautiful, man. I really love that. Now if somebody's watching that over again, because I, I want to watch that over again. I was sitting here watching it with you. I wanted to watch it again. The reason is, is because I started to feel something in my body and it was love.
Yeah.
And that's really easy to say, like, oh, you know, love thy neighbor as you love thyself and you know, the answer to the world is love. But if people don't feel love because their, their cells in their body are sooty with confusion and also with pharmacological confusion and just think about what we walk in. We walk in an EMF soaked, really toxic environment, toxic air. There's so many things that are toxic. The only way out is through. And the only fuel for that is love. However, there's no way we're going to be able to go down that route unless we are genuinely wanting a different answer, a different question. And the interplay between those two is probably the most important time that I think we've ever been in than now. We're in a big experiment here.
Yeah.
And I wonder as we round out the show, because you get to hop on a plane soon as we round out the show, you know, we've covered some ground that I'm really glad we did. I'm really, really stoked that we did. There's a couple things I did want to bring out about hydrogen because like you said, the body produces it. And if we were going to super hydrogenate ourselves, why wouldn't that be the answer to so many of the things that ail us? Is there one thing that continues to excite you or fascinate you about hydrogen and why you use it yourself and with your wife and I'm sure your kids are taking hydrogen, everybody, your patients.
Everybody that I know, I talk about it because the thing that excites me the most is, is probably a couple different prongs. One is there's no negative studies, no negative experiment, no negative result that you can have from it. As far as we know at present, you can drink all the hydrogen water you want. We also know this about it, that it's going to bring positivity. Hello. What does that. Right. That excites me. Could it be a catalyst to making us more cellular health wise and functioning so that we can avert disease processes? I believe so. Can it help with conditions? I believe so. Is it something that everybody can do easily? Yes. I think the thing that excites me about it most of all probably is the unlimited potential of what we don't know. You know, we're just on the tip end of something here that's so cool that it's beyond explanation on what can be done. If you could do one, if I could do, I got several different little biohack things that I do, this would be in the top five because we have to drink to live and we have to have hydrogen because it diminishes that excessive free radical buildup, hydroxyl radical and that kills people. So the potential with this is enormous. And the thing that is cool about it is it's available for people to use and it's not going to be available in the hospitals. Your GP is not going to know about it. And that's okay. The greatest messages of all time have been shared by the greatest non professionals of all time. And I hope people catch that because it doesn't take a degree to show somebody love. Right? You can love somebody and give them the truth to help them, to help them be healthy. So that disease and distraction is not creating something where they can't make them good decisions and make good decisions about their life, their families. That's what I'm about and that's why I'm excited about this.
It's exciting for me too because one thing that I've been doing is I had a lot of sinus issues in my life and I've been doing the nasal.
Oh yeah, right.
And so nasal is different from ozone. Ozone is completely separate. I want to be clear on that. Yeah, ozone. You actually don't want to inhale ozone. It's an irritant to the lungs. But hydrogen is beautiful because I actually was reading this study and it was about hydrogen. Improving nasal mucosal inflammation by increasing the number and function of Treg cells, increasing the release of anti inflammatory factors. The PubMed that's on the screen right now, have you seen that for people that suffer with sinusitis?
Yep. You can put a cannula in there and breathe that hydrogen gas. And here's why. Because when you have this chronic inflammation that's driven by chronic infection, whatever, and you can have this histamine reaction up in there because of the immunological trigger. And that could be pollen or allergies or whatever can be right or viruses or bacteria. But when that hydrogen gas comes in and the. And people need to understand this relationship between chronic systemic inflammation and high oxidative stress radicals. When you have high oxidative stress, that creates inflammation. When you have inflammation, that creates oxidative stress. So therefore, if we can reduce the oxidative stress, the free radicals, we also reduce the inflammation. So we can improve the mucosal barriers up here in the nasopharyngeal area simply by breathing hydrogen. And while you're doing it, guess what? It's crossing the blood brain barrier and it's doing the same thing in your brain. It's reducing the inflammation. Inflammation in your brain, or what I call brain inflammation. So it's. It's really, you know, whether you drink it or whether you inhale it, it's two different delivery methods. You can take a bath in it, you can soak in it if you want to, but use it kind of specifically on the areas that you need it. So if you want to get some more brain health and the nasal stuff and support in that area, maybe you suffer from allergies. I would do the breathing it for sure. GI issues. Think the gi. The GI tract. Drink it. Right. And so both is good and you can't hurt yourself either way. That's what I find is so fascinating about it. I don't know of anything else personally that you. You can't get too much of.
Sure. So the body will just excrete the excess hydrogen through urine.
Yeah.
Does it need.
Well, it's really. It's going to secrete it through breath even too, because it's a gas. Right. So the body doesn't store it. That's the key. Right. The body doesn't store it. So we got to keep doing it. Right. The body will produce it, but it doesn't store it. And so the bottom line is when you consume it, like in the. In the water, it'll go into the GI tract and it somehow gets in the liver pretty quickly, and it somehow gets back to the lungs pretty quickly, and you begin to expire that through the lungs in about 15 minutes. So it really goes systemic. Right. And so that's why a consistency with. It's important. I mean, I keep my machine. I brew a pot before I go to bed, so it's right from the daytime, and I brew a pot the beginning of the day. So it's right from when I come home and then I drink it all day, so I kind of consume it all the time. And I don't know if more is better, but I know it's not going to hurt. Yeah, yeah. And I think that's Cohen.
I love that you say I brew a pot because for y' all that are interested in getting this, by the way, it's on the screen Right now, joshtrent.com forward/holyhydrogen. And you can use the code Josh for 100 bucks off, which is super generous because these machines are already very affordable.
Payment plans too, which is cool.
And you can get this. This is, this is affordable. This is like way better than you going out for a couple weekends drinking beer and doing stuff that doesn't feel good for you. So that's on the screen right now. So definitely take action on that. And, and also what makes me feel even more really in integrity and just excited about this is the way that I've been feeling it, it when I drink it. Like I said, it's been a little bit over two months now. I've been doing the nasal, it's called a cannula, the thing you wear. And, and I've been loving it because I mean, right now I'm breathing clear, I'm breathing good. And I've had chronic sinusitis my whole life. Now in total transparency, I did have a sinus surgery this year and so I was telling the guys at Holy Hydrogen like, yeah, this is going to help me recover, right?
Oh yeah.
And they said yes because of what you and I talked about with the PubMed study and the anti inflammatory properties. What did we miss? We covered a lot of ground. We talked about spirituality, we talked about healing the world, healing ourselves. We talked about the broken triangle of pharma and food and insurance. Like we covered so much ground today, which I'm excited that we did. Do you feel like we missed anything in this conversation of detox pathways, hydrogen and really bolstering ourselves so that we can meet the demands of this modern time?
I think one thing that we need to understand is from the toxic element that is this persistent organic pollution that we live, emf, etc, we're going to be exposed to it, so our detox system is going to be triggered. Right. With that said again, toxins get stored in fat. So we've got to make sure that we're eating well and maintaining good body composition. That's really important because you don't want to have excess home for toxins, right?
Yeah.
As that process is happening, you will be triggering and creating free radicals. So to help your body detoxify, one of the best things you can do is include hydrogen as part of the therapy of just dealing with it as a normal part of life. And I think people need to be proactive in that and not reactive. People tend to step back and do nothing until they have something. Don't do that. You know, I've said this before. If a person spends, you know, $2,000, you know, a year on their health and they prevent $200,000 of damage in the future, they'd go, oh, that's, that's easy. Ben Franklin said it like this. Announcer Prevention is worth a pound of cure. Every dollar you spend on wellness will be saving you thousands of dollars on illness. So the, the message of the day that I've carried around over the last few years is take action. Take action. Do something one step in front of the other. Eat one good meal a day. Drink a few glasses of hydrogen water. Good decisions breed good decisions breed good decisions. One step at a time in the right direction. Is one step at a time the right direction.
Are you going to run for governor again?
Don't know. We'll see. I've been asked a whole bunch of times and, and other offices, too. We'll see. I don't know. Well, God says yes, then we'll do it.
Well, I hope you do, because, you know, in. In politics aside, like, I actually think politicians are primed for a renewal. Like, there's such a massive distrust of politics and politicians.
So.
So what we need now are leaders. We don't actually need politicians at all, which is, you know, like them or hate them. It's why Trump is so popular. Yeah, because he's. He's not a politician at all. He's a business person. And you could say the same thing about rfk. You know, RFK right now and his views on vaccines. Like these whole labels of Democrat, Republican. Forget about all those. What we need is a leader. We need somebody that can actually lead us by their own life. Example, how do they live themselves? Right. I don't take any advice or I don't do anything for my life when I don't get it from somebody who embodies something that I want.
I remember I met RFK about a year ago in California. We're at a speaking event. He was speaking, I was speaking, and I didn't think too much of it. He just a guy we're talking backstage in the tent, and this nice guy. I didn't think of him as Democrat, Republican. I didn't care.
Yeah.
But I thought, the dude's a smart guy. He's got some courage.
He's in great shape, too.
He lives it out. We talking about health, and, you know, it's like anybody that models hope, man, I think that's worth something. And we need more people like that. And right now, there, There are a few. But I remind people, from a political standpoint, the Declaration of Independence, There was only 56 people that signed that thing. That's it. Not 5,000. And, you know, you look at that 3% principle. 3%, take up arms. I'm not saying take up arms. I don't want people misconstrue that. But 3% can take action and make a big old difference. And I like to consider myself one of those people, that one of those 3%. And I know you are, too, and I know some of your listeners are, too. And, yeah, we just got to stay together and encourage one another.
Well, I've enjoyed our connection, our podcast, so much. And as parting guidance, it's the question I love. Ever since I was a little boy, I asked this question. You know, you had the note in your wallet from your teacher that said what your dream was. My question has always been, how do we live? Well, I used to look at all the adults and be like, y' all are pretty upset. Like, you're not living very good, you know? And so that's been the question ever since I could remember. And I passed that question to you. What is wellness? What is the definition of wellness in Dr. Mark Sherwood's life?
Wellness is more than just the absence of illness. Wellness is the ability to do what you want, when you want, how you want, not hurt. Now is. It's. It's living as young, as old as possible, and dying as young, as old as possible. And it's not trying to extend the quantity of life. It's trying to extend and heighten the quality of life. It's learning to love people when they can't love themselves and even when they're unlovable. It is being able to forgive people when they've wronged you. It's being able to keep your mouth shut when you want to rip somebody's head off. And it's saying the right things in love and in wisdom at the right times. And I think it's all of that. And that in itself is, I think, an outcome and an outcrop of good habits. So we got to form these habits every day. I get up every day. I kind of got a rhythm and a routine. I do. Good habits are as easy to form as bad habits, but out of those good habits, you can. You, you know, you can yield a pretty good result. That's predictable.
Thank you for the wisdom, man. Tell people the website for the clinic, the Functional Medicine Institute.
Yeah, people can reach us at Sherwood tv. That's simple. We got all of our stuff there and. Great, easy to reach. We work with people all around the country and the world, so, you know, we even got some people from down here, so it's kind of cool.
Amazing. Well, like I said, I've really enjoyed. This is our first time meeting. Yeah, man, you're about to get on a plane. So we're about to go live our lives. So as you guys go live your lives, just know that you are nourished, you are on the right path, and most importantly, we're loved. We are loved. So let's just allow this process of loving ourselves to unfold in the way that the divine Creator allows us to manifest that and to actually live that out in the world. Not just read it in a book, actually go live it. So thank you, my man, for being here. From my heart to yours, until we see you again, we're both wishing you love and wellness.
