Parenting today is under a deep crisis because we've been doing it the way we were told to do it. It's really the parents inability to individuate and break free themselves because they are so enmeshed with a parental indoctrination from their childhood that they need to present as perfect or happy or cheerful that that is really why they can't allow their children to be autonomous, individuated, separate human beings. And that's why we control our children. We want them to be happy because we were told that's what a good person does, that's what a grateful person does, that's what a successful person does. And because our emotions were never honored or validated or given space, given voice, that's why we cannot allow it in our children. It threatens us. And we so see them as fused with us because we're so codependent. We see them as a part of us when they are unhappy. That brings us to confront our own unhappiness.
