Solocast: The Emotional Inventory

Josh Trent (solo cast) presents an "emotional inventory" process to align actions with inner truth and increase integrity. He gives a step-by-step routine: get adequate sleep, clear 2–3 hours, do a short workout and shower, eat protein/fat/fiber, perform seven rounds of 5-5-5-5 box breathing, then journal on a page split into left/right columns (left: top 10 things you want; right: 10 people/habits/energies to let go). After listing, pick one change to commit to for the next seven days and "call in" social support (coach, therapist, community) to move through fear and implement the change. The episode also points listeners to the M21 guide and Wellness Force community for templates and support.

Hello, my friend. It's Josh Trent. Welcome back to this solo cast where it's just you and me today together, talking about something really important. I would say almost the most important thing for us to lead our life well, from a place of truth and integrity, what we feel in our heart versus what comes out of our mouth. We're talking about that today. We're talking about the space to the degree that we're coming to earth in our relationships, in our body, in our practices, in our job, everything we do, is it coming from a place of truth deep within, inside ourselves? And is the words matching our truth? Do we have integrity? We're talking about this emotional inventory process, which has come up quite a bit in emails from this amazing community and also in my own life, this emotional inventory. So let's dig right in the reason why this is so important, this emotional inventory. First, let's talk about what an actual emotional inventory is. Why is this so important? So, as you know, this whole podcast is formed around you and I discovering our emotional and physical intelligence. Now, the definition of intelligence is when we gather and we apply. You know, it's one thing to pick a crop and then eat it, but what about that space between? What about how we're sowing the seeds of success in our life? And we gather all the seeds, but we don't actually plant them, we don't actually use them. Knowing and doing are two separate things. And on this podcast, we're always exploring the bridge, that space between the knowing and the doing. What are the bolts of self awareness that connect the bridge of inspired action for us in our lives? This is what we're diving into today, this emotional inventory process. You know, an inventory is really just an awareness. It's an awareness of what is real, what is true, and what applies to us in our lives. This inventory process, if you run a business, you know, if you have any kind of business, any kind of job, there's somewhat of an inventory. You know, your hours at your job get logged and then you get paid. That's the inventory of energy exchange and payment. Well, the same thing. This is the crazy part, the fun part. The same thing exists in our emotional inventory for ourselves. So we have this physical, emotional and spiritual. And all three buckets constantly are either being filled or leaking or maybe a combination of both, right? So this morning I realized I have never really gone into depth into my own personal emotional inventory process. So I'm going to do that with you today. And my gift, my goal, my desire is that by the end of this seven minutes have a greater understanding of how this framework can apply to your life so you can go out and be the best human being, man, woman, for the people in life you care about. So here's how it begins. Get a good night's sleep. The first part of an emotional inventory is get a good night's sleep. Everything that we've talked about with all the influencers that come on the show is that sleep is so pivotal for everything else. So your inventory can't actually begin until you have a clear mind to think about it through. So get a great night's sleep. Sleep eight hours. If you're having trouble sleeping, pick up the Oura ring. It's in the M21 guide. After you've gotten eight hours of sleep, wake up that next morning. Make sure you're doing this emotional inventory of what's working in your life so you can actually move towards what is going to work even better. What's gonna make you feel more fulfilled? I'll take you through what I did this morning. This is exactly what you and I can do together. Sleep eight hours. Wake up in the morning. Clear your schedule for two to three hours. It's best to do it right in the first thing in the morning. If you have kids or if you have responsibilities, try to get these first two hours to yourself if you possibly can. If you can't, no big deal. Make this work for you. Find a gap of a couple hours in the day. Three hours is best, but don't use any excuses to not do it. If you have two hours, take two hours. First of all, turn off your phone. All technology put aside, go for a workout. 20 minute workout, 30 minute workout. Whatever it is, the reason is, is we're priming the body. Once you're in your body, you're out of your head. And then whatever is real for you is going to come through a lot stronger. Then take a shower. Have some quality nutrition. Focus on fats and fibers and protein and then go. Go to a park. Go to a quiet space. Maybe it's a deck with some sunshine on it. Wherever it is, just go to a place where you won't be disturbed. Shut off all your electronics and commit to being in the stillness for two hours. Now this next piece. So that was a really long piece. One, but the next piece. So after that first section, the next piece is complete. Seven rounds of box breathing. Now this is going to be a five count all the way around. So it's five second inhale, five second hold, five second exhale, five Second hold, you're going to do seven rounds of that. The box breathing is linked in the M21 guide. You can get that for free anytime you want. Share it with your friends. Focus on these seven rounds as you're breathing, just focus on your breath. The cool thing about breathing is that we all can do it. It's free and it's the most powerful reset for the autonomic nervous system for that rest and digest to get back in that calm state that we all deserve. Then this is the most important piece. After you've turned off your mind and you've gotten into your body, open a blank page on a journal and it could be an 8 by 11. Could be just a book that's blank. Just get some blank paper. Pen to paper. Research shows that pen to paper has a more memorable effect to the subconscious mind than typing on a keyboard. The reason we're doing this is because this is when the inventory actually begins. So you're on third step. Take that blank page. Write a line down the middle. On the left side of the line, Write the top 10 things that you want and you're desiring most in your life. Do it. What is the top 10 things that you want right now that you get to be that you deserve, that you're working on? That's coming in 10 things for me. I'll read you mine. Well, actually, because there's 10 of them, I'm just going to read you my top three. Now this is real. I'm literally reading them off of my white paper to you that I did this morning. So my first three in my inventory. On the left side is a loving, committed, on purpose relationship with a beautiful feminine soul. The next is a healthy, energetic and mobile body that's capable of walking, running, sprinting, twisting, everything else injury free, and also the resources for Wellness force to reach 10 million people. Now, all 10 are just as powerful as the ones before it. But we're going to talk about why it's important to list out all 10. So don't stop on this left side of the paper until you've listed out all 10, 10 of yours. These are the things just to reiterate, these are the things that are the most important to you. So that's on the left side. Top 10 things you want to be different in your life. On the right side. Now you're going to write down all the people, the habits and the energy and the actions that get to change or that get to be let go of in order for you to get the peace and Fulfillment. That's what this is really all about, isn't it? To get the peace and the fulfillment that you desire on that right side. This was my top three. I am letting go of my men's group. I've been in a men's group for five years now and I've evolved and so have they. And so it was a hard decision, but part of this inventory process is making the hard decisions. And so I'm open to a new group with a blend of business and personal. So that's number one. Number two is I have now officially scheduled in my calendar 7am yoga sessions three times a week. And on the other days, walking for 30 minutes to prime my body and to get my autonomic nervous system shifted, the calm state of my nervous system so I can have a quality day by taking care of myself first. And the third thing is that I'm letting go of the monkey mind, the seed that was planted a long time ago. Letting go that I am a lone wolf, that I have to do it myself, which is like the dilemma for so many of us. This Wellness Force will not grow unless we have Wellness Force ambassadors. If you want to be a Wellness Force ambassador, you're going to get free gear and a T shirt and a hat and social media posts with a shout out. We'll talk about this at the end of the show. But this letting go of being the lone wolf, this applies to men and women. Take that inventory real quick with me. Do you think that you're a lone wolf? Do you feel like you have to do it all alone? You know, that's the ego's lie because I hear the same lie in my ego. So let's turn the volume down on the lone wolf conversation and know that if something's really important to you, you're doing it for something outside of yourself. So that's where the people are that are going to support you as well outside yourself. And then lastly, in this inventory process, once you've taken the full inventory on the left side, the 10 things you want to be different. On the right side, all the things, people, habits, energy and actions that get to change or let go of. Now, this is the most important thing. You've taken your full inventory. Now just choose the one thing. Choose that one thing that you're committed to changing in the next seven days, you'll know. Just start crossing them out and just take your time with this. For me, my one thing was my men's group. You know, this men's work, it's a dying Art form. In the United States, women have been coming together in groups for millennia. But as men, it's very powerful for us to stay in touch with our feminine side, with our intelligence, with our heart, and with our physical training. It's very, very challenging for us to have that be such a pillar for us without being in a men's group. It is really, really important to be able to have a connected group of men that are holding a mirror to us. And so that is my number one. I took my inventory today, and for me, I've already signed up to be a part of the Mankind Project. We're going to explore that. And this is the other last piece. Call in the support. Call it in. Raise your hands, open your chest, take a deep breath, call in the social support you need, and then move through the fear threshold. What does this mean? You've done your inventory. You prepared for it. You wrote the paper with 10 and 10. You've now circled the one. You have somebody in your life, a coach, a therapist, a trainer, this podcast, myself, and an email. Whoever it is, call in, take that loving action. Call in the social support you need to speak your fear into existence so that you can watch it melt. So here's what I'm committed to. I have a friend who's actually a guest on the podcast, and I'll be sharing who that is in probably two or three more solo casts, so stay tuned. But I am going to call him and let him know exactly what I'm doing with this men's group process. This is so big. You have spent 10 minutes of your day with me, and I'm so grateful for you for this, because there was something in you that was feeling excited when I was talking about this inventory process. So how do we do this? First, go download the M21 guide. I put all the knowledge and wisdom and all the checklists and all the diagrams in that. It's wellnessforce.com M21. If you don't want to download the guide, that's fine. Just follow this path. After your workout, your shower, and your good sleep the night before, go to a quiet space where you're full of quality nutrition. Shut off all your electronics for two hours, do your seven rounds of 5555 box breathing, and then open that page to a journal and draw a line down the middle. On the left, write 10 things you want to be different in your life. On the right, write down the things that need to change in order for that to be possible. And then take a deep breath, cross and dot everything out and choose that one thing out of the 10 that you're committed to changing in the next seven days so you can have the one thing that's most important to you and the most important piece from this whole inventory is call it in, my friend. Call in that social support that you need, that you deserve, and then use that person in your life or community to move through the fear threshold. Because we're all just fearing the flinch. No matter if you look in the public online or the public out in the public, in coffee shops, people are afraid to connect. People are afraid of the flinch. They're afraid of the rejection. They're afraid of not receiving the support. But you know what? They're just like you and me and by you. Being courageous takes an act, an act of courageousness to call out a fear into existence to somebody you trust. That's where all the change happens from. That's where all the change occurs. So commit. Are you committed this week, today, even tomorrow morning? Put it in your calendar. Will you do the emotional inventory? Will you achieve this? One step doesn't have to be 10 steps, just one step that you have clarity on. You may not have the clarity on exactly how it's going to unfold, but you do have the clarity that you've gifted yourself now by taking the emotional inventory to get there. And you can always reach out to this community@wellnessforce.com group. We're talking about this inventory and a lot more in the group.
