A short podcast clip discussing eustress versus distress: eustress can strengthen the body when resources are sufficient, while distress degrades performance and health over time. The speaker connects psychological trauma to physical symptoms (e.g., new allergies after bereavement) but criticizes mind-body medicine practitioners for overlooking environmental contributors such as mold, contaminated tap/well water, and heavy-metal exposure.

Eustress and distress are the two categories of stress. Eustress makes you stronger because your body has the resources it needs to respond to it. Distress is stress that actually degrades your ability to perform and long term is bad for you. That's a concept that's lost on a lot of people, particularly in the fitness world where it's just punish the client more and expect better results. The psychological and emotional stress, even though it isn't some kind of physical toxin, has the same effect. You'll talk to these people who say, yeah, I never had allergies till my mother died. You know, these traumatic experiences, all this mind body medicine becomes relevant. But what I take issue with in that world of mind body medicine is these guys don't look at all at other elements of the case. Lots of people come to me and they say, yeah. They said it was all in my head. And I say, yeah, but look at your moldy H vac system. Look at the tap water you were drinking. Look at the well water you were drinking that was contaminated. Look at all these heavy metals on your hair. Test.
