We've been lied to. The reason that we watch pornography is rarely actually a sexual reason. It has nothing to do with sex. Porn addiction is an intimacy disorder.
It is us, but we believe it's something outside of us.
And I don't think people will realize just how devastating this is physically, spiritually and psychologically. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it's connection. Where we are the most wounded or the most deficient is often reflected in the nature of the content that we are drawn to. Why are so viewers online looking for this content? Because of mother wounds. It's often the much more fundamental psychological roots of trauma, parent child relationships, our sense of self and identity and all those things.
If I trace back my own pornography addiction to being very young, feeling not safe in my body over a decade of my life just dedicated to why don't I feel comfortable in myself? And when I really got down to it, it was a few core beliefs.
