A short YouTube monologue (by Josh Trent) explaining the idea of "emotional debt": when people avoid feeling uncomfortable emotions they accumulate an emotional burden that drives coping behaviors (e.g., overeating). The speaker encourages mindful awareness — noticing and sitting with feelings (boredom, anxiety) without numbing — as the pathway to awareness and eventual healing.

The more that we don't allow ourselves to feel what is coming up, we create emotional debt. This emotional debt allows us to go into coping mechanisms in order to express this debt. When you get yourself healthy, you are going to find out so many ways that you have numbed yourself from the feelings that you needed to feel. Oh, I'm feeling bored. Can I allow myself to feel that? What exactly does that feel like? Oh, I'm feeling anxious. I just want to eat this food to not even think about what I'm feeling. What we have to do is we actually have to, like, sit with that feeling, and we have to, like, almost, like, be friends with it as it is going on. Where is it coming from to develop mindfulness, to be friends with it, to allow it to dissipate through our entire bodies. Then afterwards, that's where the healing comes from. So where exactly does this inability to sit with myself come from? Why am I not comfortable with myself? Why? Why? Why is that? Why is that? And why is that? And then it just leads you to awareness. And then from awareness, you can do what you need to do in terms of, like, the healing.
