Wendie Trubow, MD, explains how functional nutrition can prevent or slow Alzheimer's by fixing root causes instead of just treating symptoms. Sleep, digestion, and blood sugar balance are the soil that determines brain health. Functional nutrition works alongside medical treatment to change how disease actually plays out.

So how does the functional nutrition work with and prevent and slow down neurodegeneration and dementia and Alzheimer's and other degenerative diseases? What's the relationship, the physiological mechanisms that allow us to make a difference in long term results? Again, if I think about it as the three roots and that soil that those roots live in and the many branches, Alzheimer's, neurodegeneration, brain fog, any issues that we're having at the neurological level are the branches, they're the expression. And if we get down into that soil, we start to shift the expression of those branches, just like the medical doctor is shifting the expression of those branches in a more head on, targeted way. So they work together to say we're coming at the same issue from different vantage points. And it's a huge difference. I mean, sleep, poop, blood sugar balance, which are my non negotiable trifecta, are all going to be helpful in the prevention of neurodegeneration.
