What do you think about the SF Hot List?

A founder launched a website ranking San Francisco's most attractive people to promote her dating app. The creator connects this to tech's shift toward attention and looks as AI commoditizes product innovation, and pushes back on incel backlash dismissing these women as dumb.

What happens when you make a list of a city's hottest people? If you haven't heard of the SF Hot List, basically last week this founder launched a website listing the hottest people in San Francisco. This whole thing was a marketing stunt for her dating app, which I thought was genius because it got everyone talking about it. But I haven't seen a lot of discourse outside of Twitter, so I want to hear what the rest of the internet thinks about this because on Instagram and TikTok you see hot people every single day. But on Twitter, that's a different story. There's been a whole phenomenon this summer called the Hawkgirl Renaissance on tech Twitter because a lot of attractive people seem to be moving to SF to work in tech or startups. A lot of it can be attributed to this insurance startup called Corgi, which has such an interesting marketing strategy that I want to talk about in another video. Everyone's confused why Twitter is becoming TikTok, but if you think about where AI is going, it actually makes a lot of sense. And yes, everything comes back to AI. 3 years ago, if you were to market a startup, it's all about the product, the founder, or the tech itself. But now that innovation is becoming cheaper, attention is the new moat and attractiveness sells. The tech industry is just catching up to fashion. As a tech girlie, I think it's great to have spaces for non-traditionally tech people in the industry. As a founder, I've experienced how my appearance impacts the way people see me. At the same time, it's unsettling to see the hateful misogynistic incels taking advantage of this opportunity to bring the women down and say that, oh, they're so dumb and they're ruining the tech. I look down the hill that being hot and well put together takes just as much talent and effort as being smart or technically correct. I'm still very curious to see what you think about the SF Hot List. I have friends on there and I think they deserve their place.
