Adam & Aaron (Fitness/Gym And Mortgages)

A short recorded conversation (2019) between Aaron Whybrow (Diagnostics and Finance) and Adam (Repetitions, Group Fitness and Personal Training) drawing parallels between fitness support and financial support. They argue that personalized support and accountability (in gyms or from financial advisers) improve outcomes, that exercise yields health and mood benefits (endorphin release, social contact, productivity), and that small, consistent steps build momentum toward larger goals (100+ sessions, paying down debts). The discussion contrasts impersonal 24/7 gyms with coached/group and personal training, and frames investing in health as an important asset.
Hey, it's Aaron from Diagnostics and Finance. I'm sitting here with Adam from Repetitions, Group fitness and Personal Training. A couple of things I want to talk about with the gym. The gym is based on results from the support you get and the motivation you have. And the more support you get from the gym, the more results you get. And it's similar to finance where the more support you get to be able to get the deposit ready to go and buy a house and to get yourself out of any financial trouble needs support as well. So with your gym, Adam, the support that we get when we come and train, how does that help us get to the next level?
So basically this, we're very different to like a 247 gym. So when our members come in, we know all their names, we know what their goals are, we know how to get the best out of them. So they come in, they do our workouts, we take them through the workout, show them how to do it correctly, and then we motivate and push them all the way through it. If you're going to another style gym where you just go in and do your own thing, you've got no accountability, no guidance in what to do, and it's nothing like that. So you're never going to get the same results you're going to get here.
Yeah, and that's similar. Understanding your goals and where you want to go is not necessarily always for fitness, but also for finance too. We both need to know what your goals are so that we can get you to that next level. So support accelerates our gym results and overall health, but there's other things that we get from the gym. We kick start the morning or people come in the afternoon to get, get nearly the hit that we get from the gym. So what health benefits are we seeing with the, say, release of endorphins or.
Not only are you going to get weight loss, you're going to get stronger, all those things, you're actually going to come down, you're going to meet people, you're going to get new friends, but you're going to get that endorphin release like you were saying there, Aaron. So after you work out, you're going to feel like the best, the best effort all day and then that's going to make you more productive. If you're going back to work, you're going to be able to get more, get more things done in the time that you have.
And I see that when I've finished a workout, I talk to some of the girls or my wife talks to some of the friends that come here and they're always talking it up. But sometimes when you're at the gym, it can be quite hard to get through the class.
Yeah, yeah, that's it. Once you get through it, then you're going to feel amazing after. But I guess that does, like, relate to finance. If you do, say if you're in debt, for example, you were to get yourself out of debt, I imagine you're going to get the similar kind of endorphin release.
That's right.
Get from a great workout.
Yeah. And I suppose just on endorphins, it can help with depression, it can help with pain, other things like that. When we get that over, we achieve the goal of finishing the gym class or we achieve the goal, we get that sort of relaxing hit that we are getting to where we need to be in our goals.
I imagine if you paid off your mortgage, you'd get quite a big endorphin release.
That's right. You would.
Yeah, definitely.
We both would like to do that, don't we, one day. So I suppose that it's starting off small and getting bigger. And I think that's the other thing that we find in finance. If you start off small, if we got that small debt, pay off the small debt first, then go to the next smallest and the next smallest, the next smallest.
That's the same with your workouts too. Come in, do one session, build that momentum, do two sessions. Before you know it, you've done how many sessions?
Over 100.
We know that because we track that and we give out prizes when people do get to 100 sessions.
That's right. And it changes over time. With the gym, I started off at nine, 15 sessions. Now I'm doing six 30s and I don't know how that happened.
Well, a sprinkle of 5:30am as well.
And a sprinkle of 5:30am I find it good to start the day. Some people find it good to end their day.
Yeah, yeah, that's true. I guess everyone's different. You're working into whatever your schedule might be. I kind of mix it up all the time, actually.
So how does the personal training relate into some of the group fitness? We talked about some of the group fitness that I come to in the morning. How does the personal training relate into that?
I guess personal training for people who need even more accountability. You're making that appointment time every single week. You're gonna come down, you know, you're booking that time with that trainer. The trainer's there waiting for you to come down and do your session. If you're in a group class, we don't necessarily know whether you had intentions of coming to that class. But with a personal training session, you told your trainer you're going to be there. So 99 inside of 100, you're going to be there. And then with that as well. So you're going to get more personalized programming as well. So like if someone came to you and had a financial plan for the future, you'd be able to work out exactly what it is and build that structure. And that's what we do with our personal training programs.
Yeah. And I suppose the personal attention you get from a finance broker is like myself is that, yes, I need to know middle names and license numbers and things like that, but I want to know what your goals are and your dreams are. Are you looking to have more kids? And we need to invest into a different area. Do we, do we need to pay down credit cards or do we need to do something else? And I suppose that's, that's an aspect there. And I think from a financial thing on a, on a gym membership, there's a lot of. I was searching around the Internet, found a lot of data on that gym membership cost is next to nothing. It's, it's like a no brainer related to the benefits of health and down the track when things may get a little bit dicey with cardiovascular disease and things like that or hospital admissions.
Yeah, yeah. It's an investment. Basically you're investing in your tight, like in your health. And the best wealth is health.
It is, absolutely.
Yeah.
And that's the biggest asset, if we want to put it in a financial term. The biggest asset that you have is the ability to get up out of bed in the morning and go to work.
Yep, totally.
All right, thanks, Adam.
Thanks, Aaron.
No worries.
