Can you replace your credit card with a debit card? part 4 closing the credit card

Aaron walks through canceling a credit card by calling your bank. He warns that retention teams will try to keep you on the line and that reapplying later might be harder, but closing the account or lowering your limit helps you avoid debt.
Credit cards versus debit cards. Hey, it's Aaron from Diagnostics and Finance. This is part four in the series. One was about can you spend the same way? Number two was about your direct debits and getting the timing right. And number three was about paying the rest of the credit card down if you needed to. And number four is cancelling your card. This can be a little bit harder at times because there's always a bit of a retention team. When you speak to a bank, do you really need to cancel it? You know you have to apply for it again. You know you'll have to through all the hoops and hurdles and yes, you would. Credit cards aren't as easy as they were once upon a time. You actually do have to have some income and some justification of why you need it now, which is a good thing. But if you want to get rid of it, all it is is a phone call to the bank. Go through the process, they're going to ask you the questions. They're going to tell you that you may not be able to get it again in the future. It is your choice. If you want to cancel it, go nuts. If you want to reduce the limit just as a safety thing, that is absolutely your choice. Not something that I would advocate. I love people getting out of debt and back onto their own money and saving up some surplus cash. So cancelling the credit card can be daunting. They're going to ask questions, but jump in, give it a go, and if you need any help, give us a shout out. Put a comment below and be happy to jump in and help out. All right, bye for now.
