Interest Rates

Aaron Whybrow explains why banks are competing harder on rates right now. Refinancing can save you half to a whole percent or more, but he recommends trying to stay with your current lender first. Lock in the lowest rate possible to protect yourself when rates rise again.
Hey, it's Aaron. I've been reached out by many clients recently in regards to their change in interest rates, and there's a lot of movement in the market. Behind the scenes of the RBA announcements is that a lot of banks are now being a bit more competitive related to profit margins, interest rates. They're offering what they're offering new customers, what they're offering old customers. And a couple of things that we've been doing is encouraging people to keep talking to their bank. It's always best to retain the customer where possible and save time and effort. And then we can look at what the market is doing. So we've got about 50, 50 people looking to change dollar for dollar refinance, and a lot of people getting a better rate and a good rate from their current lender. I feel that it's always good if we can keep you with your current lender, but in some cases, having a half to a whole percent to even more deduction by refinancing is the best thing. So we've got a few clients going through at the moment. We're doing some pricing requests, retention requests. We're working with them to be able to get to the next step of what they need to do. It's always better in these environments to start from the lowest rate of interest that you can, and then that will accommodate and buffer any future rate rises. All right, enjoy your day.
