Single-speaker YouTube video (Aaron Whybrow) describing the "triangle of crap": a metaphor showing how injury or illness that removes a person's income creates financial stress that becomes a third ‘person’ in relationships, causing poor communication and emotional strain. The speaker explains that insurance (income protection, total permanent disability, trauma insurance, lump-sum or ongoing payments after waiting periods) can remove money from the relationship dynamic, restore communication, and let the injured person focus on recovery.
About the importance of insurance, or if you don't have insurance, what I would term as the triangle of crap. So what is this triangle of crap? It's where you have dollars at the top, you're down here all happy and your partner, significant others over here all happy. Now, everyone needs money to survive in a relationship and typically it takes care of itself. You might get a little bit debt, you might get a little bit of everything, but most of the time when you get up and go to work in the morning, you earn some money and you'll be able to do what you do in life. So therefore we have this nice little flow of good communication between you and your significant other. And over periods of time, life may happen and something happens to you and we move into an injury and this injury makes you unhappy. And if this problem goes over a period of time that exceeds your sick leave, your annual leave and other things like that, it starts to take a pinch on your dollars. So therefore what might happen is over periods of time there's a bit of stress where there shouldn't be. And this thing called dollars starts to take on its own life of its own. So we have some bad comms, some bad comms. And then if it continues, we start to have this person called money. And when this starts to happen, everything starts to get rocky, where it shouldn't be, intense where it shouldn't be, and it starts to prevent and maybe even keeps you in this position and you don't want to get motivated to get better or anything. So the next part is, what if we could take this off the table? So dollars off the table. Well, this is really when you have debt and income and other things like that, you either need a lot of cash or you can have a little bit of leverage in the first place of income protection, total permanent disability, trauma insurance, and these little lump sum payments or ongoing payments over a period of time when your sick leave is out and your leave's gone and the waiting periods are served on these policies, this can help you really focus on you. So we can then have everybody focused on getting better and then as these payments all come in, everyone starts to get better and it's all a little bit of a lifesaver and reinforces the good communication, cuts out the bad and everyone's going alright. So triangle of crap allows us to understand that if we don't have insurance in place, money starts to become a person in our relationship. It may be that there's other financial problems that you might have that you might need to talk to myself as a broker to help sort out. But in an extended period of time without someone's income that you rely on, it does start to pinch, hurt, and drag up things that probably shouldn't be dragged up so that you can focus on what matters best is to get better and get happy again. And that's the triangle of crap.
