Adam Markel (speaker) introduces the concept of a "state change" — a quick action that alters mental/emotional state and, he claims, changes how dendrites and neurons fire. He frames the technique as a fast way to shift out of unhelpful emotions (stress, anger) so you can focus on other priorities, and previews an anecdote from Formula One racing (pit stops) as an illustrative lesson.

Here's the good news. Here you go. What the heck is that? We call it a state change. It literally changes the way the dendrites in your brain are firing, how the neurons are firing. So when you feel as though, again, you got a problem to solve, you just can't. You can't come up with it. You're stressed out, you're feeling angry or some other emotion that is just not appropriate. It's not convenient to have one of those emotions when you're up. Other things are on your mind and you have a different agenda. You can do something like that. Takes you no time at all. I learned this lesson. My son and I, we love to watch Formula one racing. I don't know if you guys watch any of that stuff. It's cool, right? It's tons of fun. It's on Netflix. And what's neat about it is that they teach us a lesson in Formula one racing. And that lesson, we'll bring that slide up right now, is that these cars, they have to take a pit stop.
