No Prep Needed Live with Rg Enzon

Navy sailor RG Enzon runs a dog-boarding business with over 300 reviews and Enzon Media, which offers digital marketing and a loyalty app for Apple and Google Wallets. He scaled the boarding operation from an apartment to a house in one year and built both businesses through organic growth while serving on active duty.

decoration and kind of cool. It'll, it'll pop up and say we're live. So right now it's just circling around though. I can look and see if it's live and it's just going to make me look like a silly person on LinkedIn because it could be doing that too. That would not be funny. Uh, let's see. Nope, I was— nope, that's that one. And let's see, is it going to do another one for— yes, we're live. All right. Hi everyone. Okay. So first I could say that everyone that comes on the show— I did, um, RJ, I did 132 lives during COVID And I— some people I started with, people I know, and then I realized I was getting asked to, you know, have other people come in and be a guest. And I thought, okay, I love this. And then I'm bringing it back because honestly I need to just— I, I'm a podcast host of 5 amazing shows. I do other things. But I, I've been like losing my own, like, my own brain cells. And I'm like, I want to like get out there too and introduce people. So I thought I would take Friday for a couple hours and do this. But I love, Argy, that you actually signed up. So I know you're bold, you're brave. Doing lives is never easy, so it makes a lot of people, you know, nervous. And I love, to be honest with you, that you're a little younger, because I think that not only diversity, but we want to hear from everyone, right? So this live is open to grandmas and grandpas still working. My parents worked till they were 90, by the way. Crazy.
Oh, wow.
And to you. So thank you. Obviously, we all want to say not just thank you for your service, but thank you for your sacrifice. So tell us a little bit about RG.
Hi. Um, hello everyone. My name is RG and I'm a current Navy sailor. I also have a side hustle that I'm working on. All that stuff. Um, born originally from the Philippines, and then, um, parents, um, had us migrate to the US when we were still at the younger age. Um, and then, um, pretty much everything went from there, you know, like, signed up in the Navy. And I had, like, huge aspiration when it comes to technology and also business. And I was like, you know, like, while also doing the Navy stuff, why, why, why not start with, like, doing a side hustle as well?
I love that. But so what is your side hustle?
So, um, right now we actually— me and my wife, we actually built, um, a dog boarding business back in 2022. And then I also do digital marketing and like software. And then, uh, my main, um, my main clients are usually business owners.
I love it. Okay, let's talk about the dog boarding because that is really interesting to me. So So you have a plot of land?
Yes, so basically it's, it's in our home. And, um, we actually started this when, um, when we were— when we didn't own our home yet, you know. And then, um, we were just trying to find something that she wants to do instead of, you know, working the regular 9 to 5 and all that stuff. So, um, the background of it is like we went to Disneyland and we have a dog of our own, and then, um, when we were going to Disneyland, we were like, oh shit, you know, like, why did we, um, why do we bring our dog? Um, we should have had him go on a daycare or something. So we're already there in LA, and then we, uh, we stumbled upon this app called Rover. I don't know how familiar you are with it, but, um, essentially, um, you just find somebody there. Um, it's kind of like Upwork, you know, like Fiverr and all that stuff. But it's for dog sitters and for dog owners.
So cat sitters too, don't forget about our kitty cats.
Yeah, exactly. You know, like, that's like primarily what the platform is about. And then we found a sitter there, and then basically fast forward a couple of weeks later, we were talking about her wanting to quit her job. So I was like, what can we do, you know? And then because she mentioned that she wants to do a business instead of working the 9 to 5. So I was like, why don't you sign up for Rover? And then she was like, that's weird, you know. I was like, just do it, you know, like you'll never know what's gonna happen. And then, you know, um, after a couple of days, pass the background check and all that stuff, next thing you know, um, you know, she, she published her profile and all that stuff. And then, um, at first we were getting up to like basically up to 3 dogs in a day. And then our limiting factor back then was, um, was that we live in an apartment. So, you know, like, there's rules when it comes to an apartment. So I was like, well, this is a volume-based business if you, you know, if you really think about it. So I was like, what if we get a house? One, we will build up our own equity, plus two, you would have more space for not only our own puppy, but also for our dog guests. So that's basically what happened.
I love it. Would you share and tell me if you feel uncomfortable how old you are?
Oh, I'm actually 33. I just look young.
You really do. I'm jealous, Argy. So you know what's funny is that first of all, I use Rover. I'm in Daytona Beach, Florida. I also use Trusted House Sitters, and last year I learned about it. And so last year my daughter and I left in June, June 1st, and we did 4 months on the road, and we had a Trusted House Sitter for 6 weeks. But my daughter and I, when we traveled across the United States, we went from Florida to New Hampshire, all the way to Tucson, Arizona, all the way back to Connecticut, back down to Florida. We had about 60 nights sit for dogs, and I fell in love with them. The hardest was the puppy. She literally— we go to this beautiful home and she gives me a leash like this. Oh, you can take them out every hour, right? Every hour. Every hour. I was crying by the, like, 5th day. I was like, this is way too much for me. I'm like dying.
I—
this was really tough. But anyways, uh, and then we had a hairless cat. My last sit was a hairless cat. Oh, that was cool. And Carl, I thought I fell in love with some of these dogs. I'm like, where's my card? I want to like— I didn't even get holiday cards from them. But we ended up with 9 positive reviews. And then actually we're going to do— my husband and I are going to do it this summer. Yeah. And I did my daughter, my friend, and was able to do the whole thing. But oh yeah, like, and I just— I love dogs. But my dog that I have, I could never put him in. He just hates the dogs in the neighborhood. And actually he really is a small little Chippin. Chihuahua Doberman Pinscher. So yeah, oh, is really—
he—
I don't know how he was in the, uh, Humane Society because he literally hates any good-looking— like, I like the big poodles and the big— yeah, oh, he hates them. I actually had, um, ChatGPT create artwork and it was a pic— like I said, oh, make a small little picture of a little miniature dog and then looking in the mirror because he thinks he's so big. And then I picture he's gonna bite everyone. He scares me, but he's a good dog. I love that you do that. I think it's much needed when we, when we need, like, I have someone coming in when we go away for a couple days, or when, um, when I was away and my husband was, uh, was working, I needed someone to walk the dog. So I use Rover. So it's, and it protects you. So it's a smart way to open up a business. So excellent side hustle. Glad to hear that you're good. Put, send me, um, at, when we get off, you'll send me all your information. So if someone's in your neighborhood in your neck of the woods. That would be great. So are you, are you still with the Navy or are you— oh, you are. So what does that mean though? Like, I know Army Rangers and, um, and National Guard, you go once a month. Is that the same for the Navy?
No. So, well, it is kind of the same but also not the same. So it— first, um, you're going to want to take a look at where are you stationed, you know, um, for the Navy We're primarily seagoing people compared to like Army where they're based off land and all that stuff. So for us, getting into a shore command, aka like a land command, that's a luxury for us because normally they would want to send you to a ship. When you're in a ship, sure, you know, like you can be on shore and land, but your primary job is to go underway as many times as possible, because, um, when we're underway, that's when we, we do our certifications, our trainings, our assessments, and all that stuff.
So you're still in the Navy, you're saying? So you're still working but you're on shore, do I have that right?
Um, I am on a ship, but, um, right now our ship is not going as many underways, so that's the main reason I was like, well, I want to do podcasts too and all that stuff while we have the time. Onshore.
Oh, RG. And then what, what, uh, what ship were you on?
Um, my first ship was, um, actually an aircraft carrier. I don't know if you've seen one before.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I was, I was a Boy Scout, so of course I had to tour it.
Okay, so yeah, I was a co-master, to be honest with you.
So Battleship Cove, I think it was called. Wow. How was your family when you went in? Your parents still alive?
Yes, um, honestly, they did not like it at first. I think my dad was kind of rooting for me to do it, but my mom was scared, you know, just normal motherly love. Um, but I'm also the first person to ever join the military, so that's, that's kind of like a big deal to them.
So, oh, thank— I know that, like, my son too. I remember when he was 10 years, he was in Afghanistan. I cried at a— just a grocery store commercial had me crying. I was always crying. So I always wonder, we don't talk about that enough, the family sacrifices too. And there's that mixture of the proudness and just get home now. Like, just get home. And when did you get married?
You said when?
Yeah, when? What year?
I think 2014. So it's been a while.
And any children?
Uh, no, not yet, but, um, just a dog. No, I think it's amazing.
I, I love it. You, you are really— it's, it's so neat to see. And you, you do look so young. When you first came out, I'm like, 18? I can't really tell. That's okay. I'm 61 with, uh, I, I still feel like I'm 31.
And you don't look 61, so No, no, no.
Only in the mirror when I look at myself. But it's so nice. I really am enjoying our conversation. So I want to make sure— how can we support you? What can we do to help you?
Primarily for me, I would like to focus on the marketing side because that's really my passion. But if anybody wants to reach out, get a free consultation, help you out with the business plan or possible reputation management, get you more reviews and all that stuff, Um, my, I guess like my best, um, case study today will be our own business because the tools that I have that I sell to, um, to businesses is basically the same tools that I've used for our own business. And today we have—
what's the name of your company? I'll put it in the ticker.
So the main company is Enzon Media, but for the reputation management, I, I have like several softwares, but one is reputation management, two is, um, digital loyalty software. Um, you know, like if you have punch cards, like when you go to like a coffee shop, they give you a punch card and then they stamp it or like put a punch on it. Um, for mine, I made it a digital version where it can be installed on your Apple or Google Wallet, and then anytime you go to that, to that store, you show that, they scan it, and then you get your stamp. Nothing to lose ever anymore, you know, because that's really frustrating because like you would collect stamps and be like, oh, it's gone.
Whoa. Okay. That's really interesting. So wait, I'm putting digital management reputation. Oh, I should just make it both, right?
Digital marketing and reputation management.
Digital. I love it, RG. Good for you. Where'd you say you were located?
California.
Digital and reputation management. That's a big one too, right there to have. Let's, let's just change that so that I have it. Oh wait, there we go. Let's see.
Do I know what I'm doing? Yeah, the strategies and the tools that we use. Overall, we started our own business in May 2022 for dog boarding. And up to now, we haven't spent any money on ads. It's all organic. And we're up to, I think, over 300 reviews now.
Oh wow. I want 300 reviews.
Right?
Wow. Wait, so the only thing I'm missing right now is the name of your business.
Yes, uh, just go to enzonmedia.com and that's right, anybody can just, um, feel free to use the inquiry page and then we'll go from there.
Oh, I love it. And then what, like, what does that look like when you do the free, uh— wait, I'm going to add this. I want to show this. Hold on everyone, I'm in StreamYard and I'm still new and I'm not the greatest, but let's see. Yes, right, I spelled everything right.
Yep.
Okay. I, I really enjoy talking to you. So I just want to hear, um, okay, so you told us how we can help you, and I think reputation management is very, very interesting. I do look at reviews, but I also— I will tell you a secret— I love giving good, good reviews. I don't do bad reviews, but there's a, like, there's this weird satisfaction I get when I'm in a restaurant and I know that I could help the server You know, whatever it is, like just anytime I can help a business, because that's something that we could all do to help each other.
It's free to do.
It's free to do. But I mean, obviously if you're really disappointed that I would talk to the owner to say something, I wouldn't put it though. I did when I was younger, like when the, when the internet first came out, I was like, oh, I should school everyone and tell them what to do. But then I realized I got older, 61, RJ, that, that it's nice to be able to help businesses and that people do look at reviews. I actually don't look at reviews. So I look at reviews. After the fact. Like, if I'm staying in a hotel, I look at the review when I'm there. It's the craziest thing. But I also get nervous. I don't want to— I don't want to preface anything by someone else's review, right? Like, just because you don't like a restaurant, that could be something you don't like, and that's not the restaurant's fault. So anything else you want to add to tell us?
Uh, no, no, that's it. Yeah, I—
can we—
okay, so, okay, so it's just actually Um, if, if you have, um, if you have any audiences who's like into digital marketing or like they have like a brick and mortar kind of business, they can, um, they can just shoot us a message and then I'll, I'll give them a free trial to our software.
Oh, I love that. Your software is interesting. Everyone, there's something about Archie, right? Like you just want to work with him. All right. So you and I are going to stay in touch, right? So we're going to connect on, are you on LinkedIn?
Yes.
Okay. We're going to connect on LinkedIn. Are you on Facebook? You're going to send me your dog information. You have my email. I don't want— I want to make sure that we're— I need you to like put your hand out like this. Say, Adrian, we're going to stay connected. Give me a handshake. We're going to stay connected. Thank you, RJ. You're awesome. I'm so glad that you were bold, brave enough to come on. No prep needed, which always sounds like a colonoscopy, right? No prep. You really do need the prep. I don't know. I just like the words, no prep needed. All right. Have a great rest of the day. Say hello to your wife, enjoy the dogs, and we'll catch you later. I appreciate it. We'll have you come back.
Thanks, Sarah Jean.
You're awesome.
Bye-bye.
