We're the Sarmies. I'm Sherry, this is James, and we're sitting here in our home up here in Kapahi on Kauai. I've actually lived up in this area my whole life. James and I have 7 children together, and 4 in the home right now, 3 out of the home, 3 in college, actually. And so, we had settled in and decided that we would never be homeowners, and we knew that That wasn't an option for us to be able to maintain the lifestyle that we wanted and to be able to live up here where it was just home for me. Buying a home wasn't an option. And then in 2009, we were introduced to the 101 system. It turned our financial lives around, as well as other areas of our life as well.
You know, without the system, I don't think we'd be able to have our own home. We've been renting for 10 years right up the road, and we always talked about owning our own home and being able to do what we want in our yard, and not have to ask our landlord what we If we could cut any tree down or plant any gardens, I think that is one of the things we always talked about. And, you know, ever since we've been on the system, it's been positive. Not just owning a home, but just with our finances, with our daily life, with our relationship with one another. It's been a blessing just to be on One on One. It's an awesome system.
Within a year of being on One on One, we paid down our debt. We were able to put money aside for a down payment, and with the right association and the right encouragement from the support team, we now, we're sitting in our, in our new home.
We want to start new memories in this home, and with our baby now only a year and a half, you know, we're excited to be here and to raise her here, and just one place that we can call ours. You know, it's very exciting for me and Sherri being first-time homeowners, and I think Not only that, I mean, we really look— looking at, you know, the future and we teaching our kids to be on the system. We trying to get them started with 99 and just to get them going on the system so that one day they can have their own home sooner than us, you know, at a younger stage and being able to support their family. It's been an awesome ride for us and, you know, 101 has done a lot and it doesn't mean that It's smooth sailing. You still have to be disciplined with your spending. You can get relaxed and get in trouble if you're not watching yourself. But I think the knowledge it gives us and the hope to buy a home is— I can't explain. We thought we could never own a home, and it's been wonderful for us. Very, very happy. Our kids been happy, and our kids ask us if we would be able to buy a home if we wasn't on 101, and we told them no, we wouldn't be able to. So it's been wonderful.
Just dream come true. You know, we're homeowners, and we've done something that we never thought was possible.
