All right, uh, for some people, moving into a new home, the process can be an exciting and a busy time, but it should not include too much surprises.
Alan Akina tells us how to avoid a sometimes common pitfall.
Good morning, gang. Are you planning to move this summer? Well, if so, you know that moving can be very stressful and expensive, and if you're not careful, you could end up getting scammed. Now, here's one of the common scams that can take place. A mover will come in and give you a lowball quote. Then once they load all of your stuff into their trucks, they add on a ton of fees and hold your stuff hostage until you pay them. So what can you do? Now, I suggest if at all possible, do it yourself, but I also realize that this might not help all of you. So here are my top 5 tips to help you avoid being scammed. Number 1, ask your friends and family for referrals. Especially those that have moved recently. You can even ask local real estate agents in the area for referrals. Set up appointments for them to come to your home to give you an estimate. Now, if they won't come out to your home, hang up and call the next one. Get at least 3 moving companies to give you a quote. Research those 3 companies by checking online and with the Better Business Bureau. And number five, ask lots of questions before signing the dotted line. Now remember that this is your personal stuff, and you want it to be treated well. For Wake Up Today, I'm Alan McKenna. See you on Wednesday.
