This is a YouTube morning-show segment titled "Thrifty Thursday with Alan Akina - City Parks Programs" (Wake Up Today) from September 8, 2011. The excerpt is a conversational radio/TV-style clip with two hosts (labeled SPEAKER A and SPEAKER B) and guest Alan Akina. Alan promotes Honolulu city & county parks and recreation programs for kids, teens, and adults — listing activities like aerobics, archery, swimming, arts & crafts, sports, ukulele, and hip‑hop dance — and notes most programs are free or capped at $2 per class. The hosts add light, joking banter about Alan’s enjoyment of hip‑hop and beach fitness.
Well, you know what? Every Thursday we like to get thrifty, and for that we always turn to our man Alan Aquino.
That's right. We have experienced some warm weather in the past few days. We'll do that in a moment. But first, let's talk to Alan.
Yeah.
Good morning, gang. Are you looking for a way to keep your kids busy and active after school? If so, I suggest that you visit your local city and county park and rec center. They offer hundreds of programs for tiny tots to elementary school kids to teens and even adults. A quick visit to their website at Honolulu.gov/parks will show you pages and pages of activities like aerobics and archery, swimming, arts and crafts, all kinds of sports, ukulele, and my favorite, hip-hop dancing. Now the best part about this is most programs are absolutely free. If they have to charge a fee, the city and county can only charge up to $2 per class. Now this is by far one of the most affordable programs to keep our kids off the streets active, and away from their Game Boys and Xboxes. For Wake Up Today, I'm Alan Akina. See you on Monday.
Great deal, and you know the great— there's like a side advantage. Not only does Alan like the hip-hop classes, he's got the hip-hop abs.
Really?
Which are really vital whenever you want to go to the beach.
And did you see this firsthand?
You know, he likes the beach, and so you can't help but notice it when a guy's got it all ripped up down there.
Well, you have to teach him the jibot.
Yeah, we'll work on that, Alan. We'll work on that. Well, we've experienced some really warm weather the past few days. I'll let you know just how hot we're
expecting it to get today. That's when Wake Up Today returns.
