There are steps you can take to be thrifty during the holiday season.
Santa's little helper, that would be Alan Akina. He has more in this Thrifty Thursday report.
Good morning, gang! Every time you see me wearing this Santa hat, that means I have a special Christmas money-saving tip for you. Today's Thrifty Thursday tip will explore the option of using layaway for your holiday shopping. But first, let me be very, very clear on shopping. It is always always in your best interest to pay for products with cash, or if you put on your credit card, to pay the credit card off in full. Now, if you can't do this, then you should consider using layaway versus carrying a balance on your credit card. The fees for layaway would be far less than the interest on your card. Now, here's what you need to know. Number 1, there's a required down payment for layaway between 10% and 20% of the purchase price. Number 2, the payment schedule is between 8 and 12 weeks long. 3, service fees will run you between $5 and $10. And number 4, there might be a cancellation fee of anywhere between $5 and $10 as well. Now Walmart will open their layaway program on October 17th, and most of the big retailers like Sears, Kmart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us offer layaway as well. For Wake Up Today, I'm Alan Akina. See you on Monday.
