It’s a short Wake Up Today financial-advice segment featuring multiple speakers who introduce money expert Alan Akina. Alan advises parents to rent video games from Redbox to let kids try games for a small fee before buying expensive titles, to avoid wasted purchases.

Video games are expensive and there are a ton of them out there, so how do you choose a good one?
Well, money expert Alan Akina has some advice in today's Thrifty Thursday tip.
Good morning, everyone. If you have children like I do, you can probably relate to having several video games lying around the house that have only been played a couple times each. There's also the Xbox, the Wii, the PlayStation, and all of the new games to keep up with. Think about that. If you have 4 unused games that cost $50 each, that's over $200 waiting Wasted. Now here's a simple solution for you. Redbox just released video game rentals in addition to their DVD rentals. Now my suggestion is that before your kids purchase a game, that they try before they buy. They should be able to figure out if they like the game in one night. If they don't like it, it only costs them $2 and not $50 or $60. For Wake Up Today, I'm Alan Akina. See you on Monday.
