Alli Peck shares three ways silence works at work: skip the gossip, pause when your raise disappoints you and hold eye contact instead of reacting, and take time before answering a real question.
Three examples of how you can use silence at work to your advantage. Number one, if a co worker says something that's gossip to you, just be silent. You could even give him a little weird look like remember, we do not engage in negativity at work. Number two, during your annual review, if your boss lets you know that you got a raise that is less than satisfactory, you don't have to say anything right away. Just maintain gentle eye contact and how dare them. And three, when somebody asks you a question that is genuinely thought provoking, it's okay to just stew on it for a moment. You don't have to answer right away.
