Alli Peck couldn't log into Zoom minutes before a group interview. She called the recruiter, emailed her slides to be shared while she spoke on speakerphone, and delivered the presentation anyway. The company hired her partly because she stayed calm and solved the problem.

I had such a disaster interview one time. I want to tell you about it because I still got the job. So I go to log into Zoom for an interview. It's a group interview where a group of people at that company are interviewing me. I'm supposed to present to them how my previous skills and experience and my background made me a great fit for the role. I have a presentation ready. I go to log into Zoom about one minute before the interview starts, and I can't log in. It's asking for me for a meeting. Passcode. I thought I had the passcode. I'm entering it. It's not working. I'm like, crap. So now two minutes has gone by. I'm technically. So here's what I do. Instead of freaking out, instead of starting to hyperventilate and have a panic attack and start crying, here's what I do. I texted the recruiter and I was like, hey, I cannot log into Zoom. And so he called me. We were trying to troubleshoot over the phone for about two more minutes. He was in the room with everybody at that company, waiting for me to log in and present. They were waiting. I was freaking out. But I'm talking to him. I'm like, look, I can't log into Zoom right now. We tried for, like, three minutes together. And I was like, all right, here's the game plan. I'm going to email you my presentation. You share it on your screen, project it in front of everybody, keep me on the phone, put me on speaker. I'm going to present and have the presentation going at home on my own screen, and I'll tell you when to advance the slides. We did it. I executed it flawlessly, and they gave me the job. And later they told me that was one of the reasons they gave me the job. I showed that I was a problem solver, and I kept my cool under pressure. If you guys ever have an emergency like that with technology during an interview, if you. It's not getting over it that is going to help you get the job. It's getting through it and being pragmatic and a problem solver, and that's why people are going to hire you.
