Alli Peck says working hard isn't enough to get promoted. Study the job description for the role you want, find the gaps between it and what you're doing now, then deliberately start doing those higher-level tasks so promotion becomes obvious.
Chapters
You want to know what to say when your boss passes you over for that promotion and gives it to the other guy and you've been working your tail off? Well, I'm here to tell you that working hard doesn't mean you get promoted. But here's what you should do instead. Go find a job description for the title that you want. For example, if you're a project manager, go find a job description for a senior project manager. Read it 20 times, familiarize yourself with it, etch it in your brain, and try to notice the gaps from where that title is and what they're doing and what you're currently doing at your job. And then just fill those gaps, baby. Start acting like that person. Start being that person at work. Once you do this and your boss sees after a while, your promotion would be a no brainer.
