I took a 20% pay cut last year. Usually when you go to a new job you get a 20% pay raise or something like that. But I decided to move from California, the Bay Area, to Las Vegas, Nevada and I got myself a remote job. Now with that came a pay decrease, I think partially because I was going to be remote and secondarily because Las Vegas is just lower cost of living and Nevada doesn't have state tax. So my take home pay is actually the same. The moral of the story is you don't always need a pay if you go from job to job.
