What's up? And welcome back to the Ally from Corporate Podcast. You know I'm your girl and your host, Ali. Today I have the most special announcement I've probably ever made in my life. No, I'm not pregnant. No, I'm not moving. To all my neighbors who are listening to this, I'm starting a community and it launches today. It's called Career Catalyst, and it is an online community for millennials who want career development advice from. From experts. They want resources, and they want to be a part of an online community of people who are just like them. I get DMS all the time, you guys, from people who are like, I have this thing happening at work. I'm not sure what to do about it. This thing's happening with my boss. What do I do? And I can't take them on as a career coaching client because I have a job search accelerator that I run, which is very specific, which, by the way, we're sun setting. We're not taking on any more clients for that. We are putting all of our eggs in this basket. We are doubling down. We are putting all of our effort. When I say we, I mean my team, including Rico and Sarah and a few others that you will meet in this community. But you guys should seriously join. It's going to be so awesome. It's basically like I'm creating a new social media platform because I can't reach you guys and I can't make the impact that I want to make, and I can't have these conversations with you on these platforms like TikTok or Instagram or Facebook or LinkedIn. It's just not feasible. But with Career Catalyst, with this new community, which is what our podcast episode is about, today, you guys are going to learn exactly why we created it, what it's going to be all about, and why you should join. It's free for the first 25 people who join. After that, it's going to be a very, very, very insignificant amount of money monthly, and I think you guys are going to love it. So without further ado, happy launch day, and let's get to the episode today. We're talking about something super, super exciting. Actually, Rico, I think it's time that we. I haven't told Rico what this episode's going to be about, but I think it's time that we leak our new project. What do you think?
Let's go, baby.
Okay, so I've been wanting to tell you guys about this revealed. I've been wanting to tell you guys about this for a Very, very long time. But I've been working on it in partnership with a very good friend of ours who owns an awesome company. Um, we are starting a career community.
What?
Yes. Okay. So back when I started out in my career, I had trouble negotiating. I didn't know really how to use LinkedIn. I didn't know how to look for jobs. I didn't know how to find a mentor that I could trust. I didn't even know that I needed one. There were so many things that I didn't know, which is one of the reasons I started making content. But I wish back then that I had had a community of people that were in a similar place like me. And the community also had some experts that would provide some valuable resources or guidance or mentorship. Just so I felt like I wasn't trying to navigate a big ship in dark, murky waters without a compass. So I am so excited to announce that we are starting a community just like that.
It's like a mentorship type deal.
Yeah. So I was talking to a friend recently and he was like, hey, I'm having some trouble at work and I just don't have any mentors at work. I can't really talk to my boss. He's not that kind of guy. He's. He was very hands off. And there's not really anybody I feel like I can trust or who's in a position professionally that I would want to be in someday. So I said, hahaha, you should join our community. He's like, that sounds like exactly what I need. So let's talk about what is going to be in this community. So first of all, we're going to use the school platform. Super excited about that. If you guys don't know about Skool, it was built by a guy, I think his name is Sam Ovens, but it's. I forget his name, but Alex Hormozi has partnered with this guy to build school. School is. It's almost like a social media platform that you can white label and build your own social media platform and invite users and members. You can have different groups, they're called pods, right?
Yep.
You can DM people, you can post, you can comment, you can like. So that's the platform we're going to use. And it's honestly perfect timing because I feel like TikTok is on the verge of getting banned and I just want there to be some place where me, my friends who have jobs, who are also working, who are like, what's the next rung in the corporate ladder? That I can reach for. How do I get promoted? What am I missing? Like, how do I negotiate better? So this community will be an opportunity for people to learn and get to know each other and network. That's going to be a huge part of this. What am I missing?
The content pillars.
Yeah. Okay, so what are we going to have? I think we're going to have resources for people. We're going to have guest speakers. So the great thing about being a social media influencer is I have a lot of friends who are also social media influencers, who are career coaches and public speaking coaches, personal branding, you know, marketing professionals and experts, entrepreneurs, financial experts. I mean, like hiring managers, recruiters, marketing team at ZipRecruiter. Like, I. We're going to have so many guest speakers. We're going to start out probably one a week, but I'm really excited about that aspect of it because you're going to be able to learn from people that you wouldn't otherwise get to be on a zoom call with. So that's going to be awesome.
What else we have the content pillars for? Who is it?
Oh, millennials. I'm a millennial. I'm 35. I looked at my analytics on social media. Most of my followers are millennials. I would love for millennials to join this community who are working in an office job or a tech job. Of course it's open to anybody who wants to join. If you are younger than that or older than that, or if you are have a blue collar job or if you are in a different country or a different time zone, you are also welco. But that's kind of going to be like where the content's coming from is the millennial perspective.
Yep. This is going to be huge because it's going to have different parts. People can ask resume advice, people can ask career advice, people can interact. We're going to have debating stuff going on, right? What, what did we have?
Like, yeah. So if you want to learn how to negotiate, sure, you could do it by trying it in the real world and screwing it up the first 20 times like I did, and reading book newsletters and podcasts about how to negotiate. Or you could join our community and maybe we could have something like a debate club where people can practice negotiating in a safe space for something that doesn't really matter and something that's not real, but it'll be like a safe space for people to learn that's not with your boss at work or on LinkedIn or with your family. So that's going to be an awesome part of it. Um, what else? I think it's going to be great for people to just have a place where they can ask questions. Um, because you guys wouldn't believe the DMS, the DM situation I have on LinkedIn, on Instagram, on TikTok. Um, people ask me very specific career related questions all the time. I just got one from a, a person who's a dental hygienist. She has five kids, she wants to get into sales. What should she do? I'm sure there are other people out there with a very similar question. And Instead of me DMing her back, I would love it if I could help connect her with other people like her. That and we can all help her with her situation. Because I'll be the first one to tell you I don't know all the answers to anything. I only have the data that I've collected in my life from my own experiences in my past. But if we get a room full of people, you can have such diverse perspectives that we're sure to cover anybody's problem from all angles. And I think it would just be cool if somebody posted in the community like, hey, here's my situation. Like what would you guys do? Imagine 50 people commenting in this original poster can just look at it and be like, oh, I love what this person said. That resonates with me. So I'm super excited about it.
I think there's more to it than just getting a one time answer out of it. Right. Of course there's because there's so much more to career growth than is to just one answer question. Because you can Google that. You can, you can, you can find, you can just, you know, pay some person 20 bucks or an hour or you can even ask other creators to respond to that one specific question and then it's done. But what we're trying to do is try to build a longer lasting community where we're part of your career journey.
Yeah.
So where you then grow with us and people in that community then also grow. So you expand your network and you can then have your own network basically of people that you can introduce or say, is somebody in here? I'm looking for, I'm looking for a video editor or I'm looking for this. And then they can check and they're like, yeah, I know this one guy, he's in this community. And yeah, I think it's going to be really, really beautiful.
Sorry, we just lost Internet, but don't get me started.
Where it just caps out for a Minute.
I know, I know. Every Morning at like 8am we just have no Internet. I think they do like rolling blackouts. That's my theory, but we don't need to get into my. My conspiracy theories. Okay, so where were we? We were talking about the community. Yeah. I think it could be a really cool place for people to join and grow so that we can be a part of their journey and they can have friends who are going through similar things as them. And I'm talking like, longer term. This isn't just a place you'd come to ask one question. This is a place where you'd get to know people, make friends, learn about different industries, learn about different jobs that are out there. You know what's an interesting thing that I Learned at the ZipRecruiter event that I spoke at last weekend?
Tell me.
One of the talent acquisition executives pointed out that when a bank says they're hiring, a lot of people out there think, well, I don't want to be a banker. Or when a hospital says we're hiring, people might think, well, I don't want to be a doctor or a nurse. But there are so many jobs at banks that is not banker. There are so many jobs at hospitals that is not doctor and nurse. So another aspect of this community that I see potential for is helping people learn what's out there, different career paths, what the next rung of the ladder looks like. And climbing that corporate ladder. Um, how to get promoted. What does it mean when you get promoted? How to become a manager. I mean, there's so much that I want to teach people and if I don't know about it, like I said, I have so many friends who do know about it. So that's where the guest speaker part comes in. You're going to learn from a bunch.
Of people, but I'm asking questions. There's going to be always be a Q and A. Yeah. So that is going to be huge, I think.
Yeah, I'm really stoked about it. I'm really grateful for the partnership we have with the other company. We will announce it soon. You guys are going to love it. A lot of you probably already know who it is, but yeah, this has been kind of growing for a long time and it's kind of what TikTok has been. Except on TikTok, sometimes I feel like I'm talking to a void and I get comments under my videos, but I can't just have like a conversation with somebody in a TikTok comment section or on Instagram, you know, people can DM me, but it's like, it's so siloed. It's like this so many times. I'm like, I'm dming somebody career advice. And I'm like, I know this other person that would totally benefit from the info I'm giving you right now. How I wish I could connect you to. So this is going to be also for the sake of connecting other people. And I think that the world is in a rough spot right now in a lot of different ways. And I think community and connection is something that we could all use for the. For positive.
Yeah. I think this is gonna wrap it up for this episode. Right?
Rico's done. Yeah.
I don't want to give too much away, though. I don't want to give too much away.
I know, I know, I know, I know. I'm. I could talk about this all day. We do talk about it all day. We're gonna probably keep talking about it after this episode's over while we do some gardening in the backyard and prefer upcoming trip. And I think that when this episode airs, we're going to be in another country, right?
Mexico.
Mexico. So make sure to follow us on Instagram @aliefromcorporate0 so you can see all the tequila I'm drinking with my dad and my little sister. Should be a fun trip. All right, that's it for this episode. If you're watching on YouTube, make sure you subscribe to our channel. If you are on Spotify, please give us a five star rating.
