Alli Peck spent over an hour on the phone trying to get the IRS to email a form instead of fax it. The IRS refused, citing security concerns, and FedEx told her only three entities still commonly use fax: the IRS, Social Security, and the DMV. Peck sees the reliance on decades-old technology as a reason younger workers avoid government jobs.

Oh, the government is having trouble hiring young workers. I wonder why that would be. Because you guys are fucking dinosaurs. I just spent over an hour on the phone with the IRS because they were trying to fax me a document. I don't own a fax machine. I've never owned a fax machine. So I had to go to FedEx because they have that service there. You can get a document faxed. Oh, when the IRS heard that over the phone, they just pissed their pants and almost hung up on me. They were like, you can't do that. That's in public. That's not secure. I'm like, okay, then email the document to me. Ask me any questions about my social or my address or my phone number. I'll verify that I am the person I say I am. This is why the government is having a hard time attracting young workers. If you would use some technology that was built in the last, oh, I don't know, decade, maybe it'd be more fun for young people. I asked FedEx who faxes, who uses fax machines, and they said only three people entities, the irs, the Social Security Office, and the dmv.
