A designer traces their path back to childhood: hours spent drawing, obsessing over fonts in Microsoft Word, pretending to be Batman. They wonder if they ever really became a designer, or if it was always just who they were.

If you were to ask me why I became a designer, I could tell you that I fell in love with the creativity of it all, or I could tell you that it's fun and sometimes I get to pretend that I'm Batman. But if I was being honest, I don't think that I became a designer. I'm not sure why I spent hours designing shapes and superheroes when I should have been doing my 4th grade math homework. I'm not sure why I spent hours choosing title fonts instead of writing my essay when I first used Microsoft Word. I'm not sure why ever since I could remember I loved drawing and designing things when there was no one to teach me, encourage me, urge me or inspire me. So maybe, just maybe, I was always a designer. And maybe the greatest designer of them all just designed me that way.
