Andrew Hamada shows analysts how to win stakeholder buy-in for a new data vendor. Research what problems each team has that need new data, like supply chain forecasting needing Amazon data. Then interview stakeholders over lunch, document their needs, and work with the vendor to build a solution that actually solves them.

In an analytical role. One of the big challenges that I had was once I recognized a need for new data and I needed to go get it, was getting enough other stakeholder groups bought in so that I could get the request approved. Most corporations aren't going to approve new data vendor just for one person's need. A huge skill that analysts should invest in is how do you actually get those people bought in to your data practice? A technique that has always worked for me is to do a bunch of research with all those teams to understand what problems they are not able to solve today because they don't have access to Amazon data. And then working backwards from there. Example might be your supply chain team. Maybe they would like Amazon data, but your company doesn't have a way to programmatically make that accessible yet. Maybe they would use that to improve the forecasts for all of their omnichannel work. I might go to those teams, buy them lunch and just ask them questions, write them all down, and then go back to a data vendor and ask them to help me bridge it. It's really the vend job to help you solve that.
