Arthur C. Brooks says the best thing parents can do for their kids is stay united as a team. Children naturally try to divide their parents, and when couples let that happen, it damages the marriage. Deep intimacy between spouses, especially spiritual connection, keeps the family strong.
One of the things that's characteristic of really happy marriages is you realize when your kids come along, it's you versus them. It's team parents and team kids and unhappy marriages that have a lot of kids. The kids get between the parents. Never let your kids, because they will. They're smart, you know, they'll divide and conquer as much as they possibly can. And it's like never no space, no space.
And it's the best thing that you can do for the kids to be close. And one of the things to do,
of course, is that is to maintain the deepest kind of intimacy, and that's spiritual intimacy.
