A short instructional monologue (YouTube short) by Ashish Kothari framing emotion management as "mental fitness." The speaker introduces "sensory shifters," defines sensation as the body's intake of information via senses (seeing, smelling, touching, hearing) using a "satellite dish" metaphor, and emphasizes sensation's role in detecting danger and helping us navigate the world.

Managing your emotions is a lot like physical fitness. I often refer to it as mental fitness. You would never think that just doing push ups would give you a well rounded, healthy physical physique. Same is true for mental fitness. So when we're talking about sensory shifters we're talking about sensation. Sensation is how we take in information about the world around us and you can think of it almost like having satellite dishes mounted all over your body. Wherever we go we're bringing in information so that we can navigate the world. So what do I mean by that? We're seeing, we're smelling, we're touching, we're hearing. Those are our senses. Now one of the really important things about sensation is we need to know what's good or bad for us. We need to know whether we're going to walk off a cliff or not, whether we're going to eat something bad for us or there are dangerous sounds. What have you.
