Feedback is data measuring the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Negative feedback just means the gap still exists, not that you've failed. Rebranding it as constructive or developmental helps, but the real shift is seeing unfinished work as neutral information, not judgment.

Feedback is data that tells you the distance between where you are and where you wanna be. Like at its core, that is what feedback is. It helps us assess the distance between a goal or an expectation or a standard and what we're actually doing today. And this is where two technical terms are really important, positive and negative feedback. People in workplaces talk a lot about positive feedback, cuz that doesn't sound scary. Positive feedback tells you that you're either on track to achieve, have achieved, or have exceeded your goal. Negative feedback, which people really shy away from that word, instead they say things like constructive or developmental. Well, we want all feedback to be constructive, but negative feedback is a really technical term that simply says there's still a gap between where you are and where you want to be. That's all that it means. It doesn't mean that it's hurtful or harmful or harsh. It simply means you still have something that you need to do before you've achieved that goal. Yeah.
