A leader distinguishes between showing personal compassion and building systems that make compassion possible across an organization. Without structural support, individual kindness gets crushed by command-and-control management that burns people out.
Chapters
Leading with compassion is when, as an individual leader, your individual interactions with others are compassionate. You're acting compassionate on an individual basis. When you and I, Ashish, interact, I'm interacting with you compassionately. But if we're operating in a system that is focused on other aspects, that gets crushed right away. And this is where leading for compassion comes in. Mm-hmm. To be able to create the environment where anyone who wants to lead with compassion is supported in that. And in fact, people are directed and trained and shown how to lead with compassion. And so that cultural water that we're swimming in, instead of being this command and control, burnout-inducing water, becomes a different framework. And it's that framework where organizations get results and people flourish.
