Ashish Kothari shares a forgiveness practice from Desmond Tutu and Mpho Tutu's Book of Forgiveness. Write down what you need to release, like the right to revenge or expectation of apology, then burn or tear the list as a ritual to let it go. Forgiveness is for your own well-being as much as anyone else's.

Hi dear friends, in this weekly tip on making happiness your competitive edge, let's turn to the power of forgiveness in alleviating suffering. Now remember, forgiveness is the power of letting go, and this powerful practice comes from the beautiful work of Desmond Tutu and Mepho Tutu, his daughter, in the book called the Book of Forgiveness. The first is start by writing down all the things that you need to let go in order to forgive. Now this list might include things like the right to revenge or your expectation of an apology. It might even include having to give up an expectation that the person who hurt you will understand the pain they have caused. Second, as you jot down this list, pause with each item and offer thanks for the ability to let go of what you do not need in order to forgive. 3. Like in many rituals, take this list and either tear it up or burn it, just as a ritual process of ending, letting go and forgiving. Remember that forgiveness is an act that we do as much for ourselves as for the other person. Take care and have a wonderful day.
