I wanted to share an approach that has made a big difference for me in my meditation practice. Dr. Shauna Shapiro suggests taking these three elements of mindfulness and integrating it into your practice. The first is intention. Intention is all about reflecting our deepest hopes and values into the compass of our heart. The second is attention which is how we train and stabilize our mind in the present moment. And finally the third and most important one, attitude reflects to how we pay attention. Are you paying attention when you are meditating with judgment or are you doing it with kindness and curiosity? She beautifully suggests that when we judge and every time beat ourselves when our attention diverts, our thoughts take us away from our breath to which we are meditating. Instead of beating ourselves up, bring our attention back with kindness and with curiosity back to our breath. So we practice what we become. And through these three elements you can also make your mindfulness practice stronger and make happiness your competitive edge.
