A short YouTube clip by Ashish Kothari offering practical mentorship advice: advise mentees to clarify a near-term (6–12 month) overarching career aim to focus and filter potential mentors, while noting longer-term (5–10 year) visions are also valid but less actionable for immediate mentorship selection.

If you are looking to be mentored, have a good idea of what it is that you would like to be mentored on. And very simple. I call that your right now overarching aim regarding your career. So it's the thing you want to tackle in the next six to 12 months. You may have a five year vision, you may have a 10 year plan, that's great. But to get someone to mentor you, you have to put some filters in place for yourself.
