Ashish Kothari explains why leaders overlook the biggest asset: their people. Desk workers face burnout from endless Zoom calls while frontline workers deal with life-threatening stress. Both need different support, but most organizations treat stress the same way.

All roles are difficult. I would probably argue that there's some sectors which we undermine the amount of stress that they go through and there are different stressors. In our study we looked at desk workers and deskless workers for the young population and the factors of stresses were very different but they were kind of equal. If you are a desk worker in the pandemic you are spending 17 hours on Zoom. If you are a frontline worker, I mean, well, you were faced with other challenges that were just equally pretty stressful and threatening. I think what's important is for the leaders to recognize what those are the life threatening and or the mental health and well being threatening incidents that are created as part of their own environment, create something custom around it because they are in fact different and be really committed to eliminating those as much as possible. Right. And again, do not emphasize it enough. Create a psychological safe environment for everybody to speak up.
