A short single-speaker YouTube video by Ashish Kothari arguing that the purpose of business is human flourishing and value creation through people, not profit alone. The speaker references a recent TEDx talk, uses an oxygen metaphor to contrast means (profit) with ends (flourishing), and calls for systemic change.

I gave a TedX talk four weeks ago and I ended the talk by saying flourishing is not a benefit is not a perk. It is the point. You know businesses exist so we can actually elevate humanity. We can serve humanity. We can create more value, right? And doing and serving others or pursuing profits at the cost of the people who are actually contributing to it. Seems like the biggest failure of the system, right? That the system is not working. We need to change the system. I think we've lost the forest for the trees. Timothy said this beautifully. We need oxygen to live but we don't live to breathe oxygen. Right? Businesses need profits to thrive but profits is not the reason businesses exist. Businesses exist to provide value to others that they are then exchanging for money. So if we orient around the value and hence how we create the value through our people I think that is a different story there of what's possible.
