80 Day Obsession Weekly Obsession Episode 6

This is a transcript of "80 Day Obsession Weekly Obsession Episode 6" (YouTube) hosted by Autumn Calabrese with cast members. The episode reports DEXA body-fat scan results (multiple cast members losing body fat despite small scale changes), discusses tracking heart rate and calories during workouts (examples: ~410 kcal for a 50-min Booty workout; ~320 kcal for a 30-min session), explains the program's refeed day (purpose: restore muscle glycogen; follow the yellow refeed list), and covers emotional/mental aspects (stress, sleep, Hurricane Irma concern) and team moments (matching hoodies). It emphasizes measuring progress beyond the scale (measurements, photos, DEXA) and encourages consistency and pushing through workouts.

Chapters
On this episode of Weekly Obsession, I have something new. Focus. Drive those hips.
That's what no workout hurts as bad as any emotional pain I felt.
Got some heavier weights today. We're in that 3 by 10 zone.
I really wanted to feel awesome and amazing, but I just didn't.
They smell so good.
Let me smell.
Oh, I can't wait to eat that. It was all delicious love. 3p days. It's supposed to be hard when you're in it.
I never pushed myself as hard in a program as I've pushed in this one.
Let's go, let's go.
We all did our DEXA scans. Yes. Yes.
Autumn wanted to have a little powwow in her room because she wanted to discuss the DEXA scans that we just took. I lost 3% body fat, which is huge. Yeah. I went from 24% to 21%, which is super good in 30 days. I never would have thought that that would happen.
I'm at body fat now, so that's good.
Katrina, what's your body fat at?
It was. It started at 23, went down to 21.
Nice.
Weight wise, I knew from measurements and stuff I had lost like seven pounds. But it was cool to see where it came from, the whole body shape thing. Like, I could see the orange went in.
Yeah, yeah, me too. Mine went from 23 to 19.
Oh, that's good.
Yeah.
But I only lost a pound and a half.
For me, when I got on the scale at the start of phase two, I was up two pounds. But when you do my DEXA scan, I actually lost just over a percent of body fat. You don't see that on the scale. For people who didn't see the scale moving as much in phase one, part of it was because they were putting on lean muscle but burning fat. Right. So it's staying the same. So people freak out and they're like, nothing's happening. And really, like so much just happened in their body. But they give up because all they did was look at the scale. That's why we do photos. It's why we do measurements. It's why if you have the ability to do something like a DEXA scan or a dunk tank or something to measure body fat percentage. You just get a more well rounded picture of what's going on with your body. Myself and the cast here are tracking calories burned during these workouts. So you do see us all with watches on and things protruding from our shirts and such.
Wearing the heart monitor was a new thing for me. I've never really Monitored my heart rate during a workout before, so I honestly didn't know what to expect from it.
We'll wait for our heart rate monitors to kick in. It's just again, another stat that gives people more information. The more educated you are on what you're doing and what your body is doing and what your body is accomplishing, the better. Really focus on sinking into the heel of this left leg. Hike it back, Pop. My butt is on fire. It all comes from your butt, not your back. You look like you got electrocuted.
Your hair is like bow. That's pretty, right? Maybe everybody at home feels good about themselves right now.
I burned 410 calories in that workout. It's pretty stationary. It's not like a cardio workout. So it'll be interesting to see how it changes with each of the workouts.
I hate cardio core. Cause I hate the hiit stuff.
I hate when my heart rate goes.
Up and down and up and down, up and down.
See, I would like it if my heart rate did the down part, but mine is like.
That's why I hate it. Cause I'm like, oh my God, I can't breathe. You gotta push. You're gonna get what you give. Come on, you've got this. Keep working. Keep pushing. Yes, you can. You're in it with us.
Just because your heart rate's elevated and it's hard to breathe, that does not mean you have to stop doing the workout.
Control that breathing.
Donald Autumn said it like multiple times in the workout. Control your breath, control your breathing.
You gotta push through every single exercise. That's how you make progress. That's how you get stronger.
The calorie burn comparison is interesting because yesterday we did Booty, which is about a 50 minute workout, and it's all really heavy weights. And I burned I think 410 calories. And then today when I first looked at my calorie burn, I think it was 320. And I thought, why did I burn less calories? Like, that was intense. I was pouring sweat during the whole workout, but it was only 30 minutes.
Myself and my cast are always actually going to believe it or not burn less than maybe somebody who is less fit or carrying more weight. The more weight you carry, more likely you're gonna burn more the more conditioned you are. Yeah, it's harder to get your heart rate up. It's harder to challenge your muscles. You have to push harder.
Today on the much anticipated refeed day, I brough some chocolate brownies that are from Autumn's cookbook. We're all bringing in some desserts because we can only eat, you know, like, one small portion. So we're kind of, like, all trading with each other so we can all have a little bite of each dessert.
Call it, put your name on it.
I think it's this one. You want that one in the corner? I mean, we still had to follow our time nutrition. So I'm not getting it till a little bit later in the day because that's not part of my workout block. This is like a bake sale.
Use that power. Just like a boxer would. Use their hips to come around. That's what you're doing. Extend those legs as much as you can. Press sit up. You're definitely using your arm in a Turkish get up. You have to, in order to roll up, like, stabilize a little bit. Now you're not driving up through that arm, but it's definitely a stabilizing arm. It's not just there for balance, you guys. It's gonna help push you up. I know what they're all thinking. There's brownies waiting for them after this. The whole point of a refeed day is we're restoring the glycogen in your muscles, the sugar in your muscles. We are at a bit of a deficit, obviously, on our nutrition plan. That's normal. That's where we're supposed to be for this. But we want to replenish the glycogen. That's all today is. Use the yellow refeed list. I can't emphasize how important that is. There's scientific reasoning behind this. It's not just a free for all. So follow it, try it.
Enjoy that.
You get to have little treats today. I know we're going to.
I have something new. It was just a little gift to make us even more unified. They say 80 day obsession on the back. They have their name on it. I just think it's like, a fun little bonding thing for us to have.
I love this hoodie. I'll show you. This is my name. And then on the back, we've got our 80 day obsession.
Thank you so much. I wasn't gonna leave you out.
Come on.
You didn't think you weren't getting one, did you?
Right?
I didn't think I was getting one. I was getting one.
Thank you, Lotto.
You're welcome.
It has my name on it, which means nobody can steal it.
Boom. Thank you, guys, for all your hard work. I like it. We look like a team, like we're ready to do some work when we all walk in with our hoodies. I'm sure we'll start messing around with them. For sure. Everybody's gonna come in with them on their head and it'll be fun.
Mmm.
Is it good?
Did you eat it? Oh, it happened. Yay.
Let me open my dessert. My dessert container.
Oh, my gosh.
Chocolate.
We haven't had sugar in so long. So it was a really exciting, nice treat to get to just have a little bit of chocolate.
It was so nice to have a freaking chocolate chip in my mouth.
I think just like mentally to know that I can still eat a dessert. Like, I needed that.
It was all delicious. Love free feed days.
After refeed day. Honestly, like, I really wanted to feel awesome and amazing, but I just didn't. My headache was so bad last night. I was trying to study and I couldn't even like open my eyes. I went to bed at like 8:30 and so I came in today and I was like, man, how did everybody else feel? Thinking that they might have felt the same way. And they were like, we feel amazing.
I slept great.
I had plenty of energy.
Like, I didn't feel sick. I got nervous that I would wake up this morning and be really like bloated and overly full. But I wasn't at all.
I didn't feel like I was eating an abnormal amount of food ever.
Refeed day. For me at least it's showing me what foods I can eat that are not as heavy and not feel like I have to eat so much to feel like, oh, yeah, this is a good little treat.
Maybe it was something non.
Yeah, maybe something non related to repeat daylight.
Maybe you're just tired.
What was my wedding anniversary yesterday too?
Oh, she had a lot of stress.
She had a lot of stress going into the day.
I have like a big test today. I'm still dealing with like, my divorce creates stress. I have children which creates stress.
Carrie, you mentioned earlier refeed day for a minute didn't leave you feeling so good. That can happen. But you've also been a little stressed out lately. Important to acknowledge that too. They like to look at workout programs as just the exercise and the food and they forget to examine everything else going on. Are you sleeping enough? Because that's where all your recovery happens. And if you're not, you will wake up bloated and puffy or how stressed out are you? Because stress plays a huge role in whether or not your body lets go weight that cortisol response and whether you're going to retain it around your stomach or not, which is what everybody looks at right. The abs are people's measurement of whether or not they have lost weight. So when Carrie mentioned she felt really crummy after refeed day, I was like, I get it. And it could very well just be her body wasn't used to sugar. She hasn't had it in six weeks like that. But she's talked quite a bit about some other personal stuff going on and challenges that she's had. So we have to take that into account and acknowledge that that's happening and that it might not have just been the food from a refeed day, but right in her workout, she feels awesome, and that's what counts.
The leg workout was exactly what I needed today. It made me feel so amazing, like it was everything that I needed. You know, I'm, like, tearing up just, like, talking about it.
This is nine, one more, and then we slide that heavy breathing has all proved that you're trying. Wish I had somebody to hand me weights. I got the big buff guy sitting under the camera. Cody, if you don't have heavier weights, you can sink into that curtsy lunge and hold it for a split second, and that'll give you more time under tension.
The exercise that I enjoy the most would have to be sumo squats, because I feel like I'm getting the most gains out of leg day with them. I want to have massive legs, like tree trunks.
Every accomplishment is going to start with the decision to try.
I have a hard time balancing when my feet go straight forward on any of the workouts because I'm kind of flat footed. I have fallen arches. So my whole life I've been insecure about my feet looking like they're falling in. So I sort of put my weight on the outside of my feet. So there's just a lot happening when we're balancing on one foot. I'm like thinking about, where do I put my weight, how do I hold myself? So it's a lot.
Amazing how you can start something in a funk and come out the other side with a little endorphin rush. Feeling good, and it changes your whole day. I know sometimes it's really hard. Open those legs up, reach forward to.
Get into the groove.
If you're having, like, a bad day or a rough morning and you're just like, ah, I'm gonna skip my workout. It's the worst thing you can do. Get it in.
Even if you just do 10 minutes.
You'Ll probably keep going and you'll feel so much better after.
So yesterday was obviously a very stressful day. For me, I felt a million times better after I worked out.
The best thing I ever did when I was going through my divorce was commit to doing it workout every single day. So this has been a really great opportunity for me to just recommit to that and remind myself of how much stronger I feel mentally and emotionally when I'm actually taking the time to move my body.
When I work out, I feel like what pushes me harder is that I tell myself, no workout hurts as bad as any emotional pain I felt. So I'm like, why am I gonna stop? So that's when I push myself further.
That's very interesting.
Damn right.
You're the only one that can push yourself. You're the only one that can tell you you can't or you can, or like, you can keep going or you can't keep going. I just give myself a little pep talk of, listen, like, this is your one workout of the day. Like, you really need to give it your all. Because if you don't, I'm gonna look back and be like, okay, well, I was pathetic today and now I can't go back and change that and that, you know, that could affect my results and everything.
This has been a really beneficial thing for me, like, this whole process, but it also is, like, therapeutic.
That's a really good testament to what it's going to be like for everyone who does this program. And they still have their job and their kids and their families and stuff.
Really, I feel like everybody would feel a hell of a lot better, less stressed and more productive if they just started doing what we're doing. I'm ready for today, that's for damn sure. And I still have abs.
Crunch your abs, tricep push ups. If you need to do them on your knees, you can flex that foot back in 2, 3. That time under tension. That's where the growth is coming from.
The transitions are quick because it's a lot to get through, but we're going from upper body to lower body to core. We're moving through different things. So you kind of get that little break that you need to be able to keep pushing.
Bringing out the big guns. Look at those arms.
It made me feel good when she pointed out my biceps. Well, I kind of feel like it sometimes. Like, if I'm just like in the mirror doing something and I see myself, I'm like, wow, it really looks like I have a bicep there. But when I'm like, yeah, they don't look that big to me, but it doesn't really Matter. I guess I'll take the compliment.
I'll be completely honest, you guys. My morning was a little distracting. One of my best friends called with some stuff going on, so my brain took a second longer to focus. This morning as we film this, Hurricane Irma is getting ready to hit Miami. And it'll be interesting. By the time people see this episode, obviously we will be several months past it. But my best friend was supposed to leave Miami this morning and her flight got canceled. So she's in Miami. So obviously that is like, heartbreaking for me because I offered to fly her back home three days ago. And she's like, I'm good. I'm gonna fly out Friday. I'm gonna go to New York. And she waited and now she's stuck. And so now all I can do is wait and hopefully that my best friend is okay. And we've got Beachbody coaches there who are near and dear to my heart. Like, I had asked to go to our Beachbody super Saturday on my birthday in Miami, which is two weeks from now. So just knowing that all of that is going on, look, here I go getting emotional. It's hard. It's hard to watch the people you care about get stuck in a situation that you are helpless.
It happens. That's what life does. It throws us curve balls. But when you get into the this workout, you dial it in and you focus.
It's supposed to be hard when you're in it. Afterwards is when you feel really good. When you're like, yes, I pushed.
I've never pushed myself as hard in a program as I've pushed in this one. I've never grown in strength as much. I mean, even coming into this program, I could only do five push ups. And now I'm going through three rounds of 10. I really never thought I'd be able to do that.
I'm gonna show you that you are limitless.
I feel stronger, I feel equipped. Like, I feel I'm prepared and I'm strong enough to handle these exercises. So now it's just fun to learn new things.
You guys did awesome. Ah, Week six, we introduced the refeed day and Dirty yellows. If you wanna know what it's all about, head over to Beachbody on demand. Sign up today and get started with 80 day OBs.
