Autumn's Inspiration

Autumn Calabrese answers fitness questions about her calorie ranges (1500-1800 normally, 1800-2100 during competition prep), how to count R and R as one yellow container, and why you should recalculate calories only between 21-day rounds, not weekly.

Hey, BOD members, I am here today answering some of your fitness and nutrition questions. So let's get started. What calorie bracket do you normally use and what calorie bracket do you use when prepping for a competition? Okay, so for me, I actually fall in the, in the like it's 15 to 1800 calorie bracket. That's where I sit pretty normally. I know everybody sees me in my size and they're like, why isn't she in the smallest calorie bracket? It's because of how active I am. Not only am I usually working out for an hour plus a day, because I enjoy working out for an hour plus a day. I'm just on the go 24 7. So I'm burning, burning, burning. When I'm in competition prep, I usually bump up one more calorie bracket and I'm in the 1800-2100. That's because I'm trying to keep muscle on and I am working out usually two to three hours a day depending on where I'm at for competition prep. So that's where I fall depending on what my goals are that I'm working towards. Raw veggies versus steamed. Which do you prefer and why? I prefer raw for two reasons. One, I just like raw vegetables better. Like steamed veggies tend to get mushy and I have texture issues. But the second you start cooking vegetables, you start cooking their nutrients out of them as well. So if you eat them raw, you're getting a little bit more nutrient value for them. So for me personally, it's raw. But there's nothing wrong with steamed. If you like steamed better, go for it. For those of us who drink the P90X results in recovery formula after workouts. How would we calculate that into our nutrition plan? One scoop of R and R is going to count as a yellow. Can you do double workouts for the whole 21 day fix? If so, do we just use the Week 3 schedule for doubles? Yes, yes and yes. Yes. You can do doubles for the entire three weeks. That's not a problem. And yes, you would follow what that week three schedule is. That'll tell you how to combine them all. How would a clean vegan work with the container system? I eat two meals a day that would each use three green containers. My allotted amount is three a day and most likely wouldn't eat four proteins a day. Alright, so here's the deal and I get this question a lot. When it comes to vegans and vegetarians, we are actually working on a Vegan vegetarian revision of the meal guide so that we can address all of these questions. So hang tight. It's never a bad thing to eat more veggies. Like, you can't really overdo it on veggies unless you start pouring a bunch of oil and that sort of thing. I know it's harder, and I'm doing the best that I can. And Beachbody is doing the best that they can to get more vegan and vegetarian recipes out there. For you guys, it just is harder because the way the program is written right now, it's written to also have animal protein. So just know that we are working on it, and we will get there, I promise. Do you recalculate your caloric count at the end of each week and adjust your food intake? No, no, no, no, no, no. I see this a lot. I see people being like, okay, well, I lost five pounds in the first week. I'm going to recalculate. And then I lost two more pounds. I'm going to recalculate. And I gained a pound. No, you do the calculation at the beginning of the program. That is your bracket for 21 days. At the end of 21 days, you recalculate before you start your next round. But don't recalculate every week. Your body doesn't. It's not going to adapt that much in that short of time. You can stick with the calorie bracket that you're in for that 21 days. Even when you're losing weight and continue to lose weight, have faith in the program we put out. It works. I promise. All you got to do is follow it. Okay? My schedule stinks. The only time I can work out is at 11pm Is it bad to eat a protein after the workout, then go to bed? No, that's totally fine. You can absolutely still eat a protein after the workout. Make sure it's not like something huge that's gonna sit heavy. Cause it's just harder to digest. So I would say, like, ground turkey or chicken would be better than a steak, but. But even better than that would be the beachbody performance. The Recharge formula is fantastic and delicious, and that's not gonna sit heavy at all. And it's gonna help your muscles repair while you sleep. So that would be my best suggestion for that one. Who do you look up to and who inspires you? Like, you inspire your fixers? Gosh, that's a tough one.
I'm inspired by a lot of people, and it's not necessarily some big name Fitness person. Like, it's not usually, oh, I saw this Olympic athlete or that person.
My inspiration comes from the everyday people, like my coach from my fitness competitions, Ingrid Romero. She's a mom of twins. She's running her own business. She's a huge inspiration to me because she's out there every day just doing it. She's got a great, supportive husband. Both of them, as a team, really inspire me. There are some amazing people that I've been lucky enough to have on my set with me who inspire me every day and just make me want to keep pushing harder. My son is a huge inspiration to me. That kid is just a ball of energy, and I want to be able to keep up with him for as long as possible. So he definitely inspires me on a daily basis. And when I see him learning from me, that is. That's huge for me, like, when he wants to work out with me and that sort of thing. My older sister is a really big inspiration to me. She's really big in health and fitness, so it comes from everywhere. Sometimes it's just somebody I see on Instagram. Sometimes it's you guys. You know, a lot of times it's you guys. When I see all of you doing your workouts and posting your meal prep, I actually was just telling somebody the other day that when I see people doing their meal prep on Facebook, I'm like, oh, my God. They're 10 steps ahead of me, and this is my job. Like, look how awesome their meal prep is. So I'm inspired by everybody. Like I said, it just depends on the day and what I'm seeing around me. But you guys all definitely inspire me. All right, that's it. You guys, these questions were great. Keep them coming, and we'll have more answers coming your way.
