In this instructional video, Bill from Beyond Fitness Online demonstrates a single exercise designed to improve balance, midline stability, and correct knee valgus (inward knee collapse). He explains that poor midline stability often leads to compensatory knee valgus, which can cause issues throughout the lower kinetic chain and lower back. The exercise uses a resistance band placed around the knee to provide an outward pull, encouraging activation of hip abductors and external rotators that pull the knee outward. The movement involves stepping up onto a platform or step, moving the banded leg over the step, and returning, all while maintaining upright posture, core engagement, and balance. Bill emphasizes safety cues such as using a support for balance if needed, keeping good posture, and avoiding falls. He also notes that the exercise simultaneously strengthens the knee, hip, and core. The video concludes with a call for comments, a subscription reminder, and a motivational sign‑off.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online. Today I want to show you an exercise that's great for your balance and for your midline strength. Let me explain. When we have poor midline stability, we tend to do things with our body to compensate for that stability. One of those things that we often see is what's called a knee valgus or a valgus collapse. That is when your knees kind of bend inward towards the midline of your body. And that may happen on one side or both sides. And we need to fix that because that can also lead to potential problems with the knees, the feet, the ankles, the hips, as well as the lower back. So we want to do an exercise that can encompass challenging the valgus collapse so that it gets better. And then we also want to do an exercise for balance at the same time so that we can get used to the normal things that we do, like walking. So I'm going to show you that exercise right here.
To begin this exercise, we want to position the band around the knee, pulling the knee towards the middle of the body. We're going to step up and over the band and then back. You can also hold on to something for extra support if you need to, but focus on your balance and keeping good posture while you do this.
I hope you found that interesting. What's great about this exercise is it will challenge your balance. Now don't be afraid to use something to hold on to with your hands if you need to, because the last thing you want to do is fall down here. And then the other thing that I'm often asked with this is, if the knee is collapsing, why do we have the band pulling the knee in that direction? And the reason is, is because that will get you to activate the muscles That pull the knee back out. And that's what we're really trying to strengthen there. So we strengthen the knee, we strengthen the hip, we step up and over for balance, and by staying upright and, and using all of the core muscles with that, we start working on the core as well. So go ahead and give this a try. And if you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. If you haven't already, please subscribe. I post new updates on my channel every Friday.
