Bill Daniels demonstrates a single-resistance-band exercise that improves core stability and balance by anchoring the band at shoulder height and pulling it overhead while leaning forward and maintaining focus on a fixed visual target. The movement helps people with vertigo or vestibular deficits, and variations let you adjust the angle and band position to find what works best.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online, and today I want to show you an exercise that's really great for not just stability and arm strength, but also for balance and for your vestibular system. Now, if you followed me for any length of time, you know that I work a lot on the vestibular system, and I work that into regular exercises, and, and it's great for people with vertigo and other vestibular issues, but you also may have low-lying vestibular issues that you're not even aware of. And by just incorporating these things into your workouts, you'll find that you get more stable, you get stronger, and things are better. So for this exercise, all you're going to need is a band that you can anchor to something at about shoulder height, and we're going to need a visual target as well. And I'm going to show you this exercise right here. To do this exercise, fasten the band to something behind you. Grab it with 2 hands, get a good lean forward, and then start to shift that band from one shoulder over your head to the other. It's really important to keep a single visual target that you do not stray your eyes from. Now you can also do this in the other direction where you're going to lean backwards and do the same thing where you go over your head shoulder to shoulder, again keeping a visual target the entire time. I hope you found that interesting. I personally like to use that exercise with the band behind me. I've also done it with the band in front of me. You can also try it with the band higher or lower in any direction, and for everybody, a different angle works better. So no two people are alike. So play with it, see what works for you.
