Do this to get deeper squats

Bill shows a 30-second vestibular drill to deepen your squat: stick a symbol on the wall at eye level, then bounce up and down while staring at it. A weak saccule in your inner ear can limit squat depth and cause hip tightness. Stop if you lose balance or the symbol blurs.

Hi, I'm Bill from beyondfitnessonline.com, and today I'm going to talk to you about a little drill that you can do during your warm-up that can help you to squat deeper. It can help to alleviate any balance issues or vertigo you might have. It will make you feel stronger in your lower body and feel more connected to the ground. So what we're going to talk about today specifically is called the saccule. It's a part of your vestibular system up in your inner ear. Now, your saccule has one job, and that job is basically to tell your brain which way your body is moving when it's going up and down. So what we want to do is do an exercise that helps to strengthen that. For a lot of people, that becomes very weak or underactive and doesn't fire as much as it should. And as a result, we end up with tightness in our hips and our lower back and along our spine. And it ends up limiting us from being able to get low and vertical, and it can even play a role in your posture as well. So I'm going to show you that drill right now. It's really simple. All you're going to need is a little sticky note and a pen and a little bit of space in front of you with a wall. Take a sticky note and put a symbol or a letter on it that you can see clearly. Put it on a plain background wall and at about eye height. You're going to stare at that symbol and you're going to bounce up and down. And try to do this for about 30 seconds. If you start to lose your balance or the symbol gets blurry, then you need to stop immediately. You can vary the distance you are from the wall for difficulty. I hope you found this drill helpful.
