Bill demonstrates a vestibular exercise to improve balance and reduce vertigo. Place a sticky note at eye level, squat, and glide side to side while keeping your eyes fixed on it and your torso flat. This targets the utricle, the part of your inner ear that tracks body orientation.

Hi, I'm Bill from beyondfitnessonline.com, and today I'm going to show you a drill that's going to help you walk better, move better, and potentially help alleviate any vertigo symptoms you might have. Now, this is a drill for the utricle. If you saw my video last week, it was for the saccule. Both of these pieces work together To help you tell your brain which way you're moving, whether it's up and down, left or right, whether you're walking forward and backwards, whether you're bending over. And if you have any issues with this stuff, whether it's for your flexibility with your hamstrings, or you are getting dizziness or vertigo, whether it's trying to move better in different directions or having trouble with different exercises, this little drill might help you. Now, if you haven't seen the saccule drill already, go ahead and watch that one right here. And check that out. That one's really simple. This one, you need the same equipment. You're just going to need a little sticky note and a little space on the wall, and I'm going to show you that drill right here. You're going to set your target up about arm's length away, right in front of you at shoulder height. You're going to squat down so it's close to eye level, and you're going to set your feet so you can glide side to side. Be sure to stay flat as you go left and right, keeping your eyes on the target, as you can see I'm doing here. You don't want to go up and down because that's the common mistake, as you'll see here. This is actually a different drill and won't stimulate the same part of the vestibular system. So stay flat as if a ceiling is over you. I hope you found this helpful.
