Bill Daniels explains how where you look changes how your body moves. Eyes up supports extension, eyes down assists flexion. He demonstrates with squats and forward bends.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online, and today I want to talk to you about the eyes and where they are when you're exercising. Now, if you missed last week's video, it was all about what to do with your eyes when you're doing extension movements. You can check that out right here. Now, today we're going to talk about the opposite of that. That's flexion. So if you're bending the elbow, if you're bending over to touch your toes, If you're going deep, trying to get deeper into your squat, these are all examples of flexion movements. And very similar to last week when we talked about the brain reflex with the eyes going up helps extension, the opposite is true. Eyes down like this, looking towards your nose, helps with flexion. So think about that while you're doing certain exercises. If you're trying to get deeper into your squat, for example, think about trying to put your eyes down. Right as you start to do that movement. And I bet you, you'll find that you can actually get a little bit deeper. And I'm going to show you a little example so you can see how this works right here.
So for this example, we'll be using a forward bend. When the eyes are up, you'll see that you can only go so far. You can try this yourself at home. When your eyes go down, you bend over in the same movement and you can go significantly further.
I hope you found that helpful. If you have any questions or comments, leave them below and I will answer them myself.
