(uploaded 2020-08-21) featuring Bill Daniels (owner of beyondfitnessonline.com) speaking in a solo, instructional video. He explains how metabolism, hormones—particularly insulin and hyperinsulinemia—and blood sugar can block weight loss. He recommends a low-glycemic, high-fiber diet eaten with protein and fat, avoiding skipped meals, and managing stress (to prevent cortisol/serotonin-driven overeating). The video is educational/advertorial in tone, includes practical tips (breathing/stress management) and a call-to-action to comment or contact him at bill@beyondfitnessonline.com. If you're doing all the exercise and watching what you eat, but you still can't lose weight, then you might wanna watch this. Hi, I'm Bill, owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, where we think outside the box to help you get out of pain and lose weight so that you can live the active, healthy lifestyle that you deserve. Now, today what I wanna talk to you about is how your metabolism and what you're eating can influence your hormones and how that can help you get over the hump to losing weight. So what generally happens is we start to eat and we get on these diets and we're like, I'm only gonna eat this food, or I'm gonna cut out that food. And in combination with that, you're gonna go exercise. And you do all this for a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, a month, And you get on the scale and there's not much of a change and you get really disappointed and really upset. Well, it's really simple to break it down and just say, hey, it's calories in, calories out, and there's actually much more to it than that. If that hasn't worked for you, then what you'll probably wanna do is look a little bit deeper. Now, what's really, really important is that you are able to balance your hormones. When we talk about the hormones, what we're really talking about is the endocrine system. This is the system that encompasses all of your hormones, and all of your hormones will play a part in every single system within your body. It plays a big role in things like gut health, in regulating your body temperature, in digestion, and blood sugar. And so what we're going to focus on today is blood sugar. And particularly hyperinsulinemia. Now, hyperinsulinemia is what we refer to when the pancreas just thinks it needs to pump out as much insulin as it possibly can, and the body's just not responding the way that it thought it would. Although age might be an influencing factor on why you might have hyperinsulinemia, the other 2 important pieces to look at are obesity and high carbohydrate or high sugar diets. If that's you, then it's very likely that hyperinsulinemia is the problem and why you can't lose weight. It kind of becomes this nasty cycle. So what we want to do is start to figure out how can we get the pancreas working the right way so that we don't get into this hyperinsulinemia cycle. So the very first thing you'll want to do is pay close attention to your diet. If you have hyperinsulinemia, what you're going to want to do is really focus on having a low glycemic diet. Now, if you aren't familiar with what low glycemic is, you can Google it and you will get a list of anything that's a carbohydrate, and they're on a scale of 1 to 100. Now, the higher the number on a particular food, That means the faster that food is gonna convert into sugar in your blood and raise your blood sugar. The lower number means that it's lower or slower in raising your blood sugar. So, it's important to understand what foods you're eating and primarily stick to the lower end of the glycemic index with your foods. This will also usually include foods that are high in fiber, and that tends to slow the blood sugar. As well as you wanna eat these foods with protein and fat every time you eat. That will also slow digestion and keep blood sugar from shooting up really quickly. The other piece to this is don't skip a meal. If you skip a meal, your body goes into this starvation mode and you get this sort of rebounding effect, and you'll get a stress response in your cortisol, and that'll fire your blood sugar back up. So don't skip meals. The other piece to this is managing your stress. We don't want to have those cortisol spikes. Now, what happens is when we get under stress, particularly chronic stress, it actually depletes a neurotransmitter in your brain, and that neurotransmitter is serotonin. Serotonin has a key role in telling your brain when you've had enough to eat. So, if you are low in serotonin, you're gonna, one, be hungry more often and overeat, and when you do get to those points, you're probably gonna reach for the fast-acting, high glycemic carbohydrates to bump your blood sugar back up. So what you wanna do is really make sure you are managing your stress. Make sure that you're breathing properly. If you need more information on that, I've got this video right here. You wanna make sure that you're maintaining an even keel as much throughout the day as you can, and when you do go through stressful moments, Bring yourself back to a normal state as soon as you possibly can.
